.300 WM compaired to 260 Remington

Re: .300 WM compaired to 260 Remington

The 300WM carries more energy than a 260 at those distance. If your shooting at steel the extra energy could help identify hits.

Re: .300 WM compaired to 260 Remington

300 WinMag offers more energy at the target at distance than 260Rem, and has more really available loaded ammo. If you are target shooting only that does not matter much except to spot your misses.

Re: .300 WM compaired to 260 Remington

It's probably loads more fun to shoot a 300WM at that range.

Re: .300 WM compaired to 260 Remington

I switched over to the 260 a year ago. If you are just shooting paper/steel the 260 is a great round if you handload and you also shoot at distances inside or 1000. Lapua brass is easy to get and there are a good # of high BC bullets available.

If the majority of your shooting will be past 1000 drop the 300 and move up to a 338

If you reload, there are better rounds than the 300WM with less recoil to get you past the .260 barrier. Look at the 7mm cartridges (WM, SAUM, WSM). If you plan to go LONG regularly, do as Jet said, jump up to a .338 (Lapua/Edge/etc).
