I have to remove all the bolts so they fit in the safe. I made a bolt rack inside for them. Guess I need a bigger safe...

Re: precision rifles... show em

My first... and certainly not my last bolt/precision rifle.

It's a GAP "Moon" build... a "Rock" model in .308.
Not even a year with it... and the addiction seems to be getting better...

This is how it looked when I first got it that first week

Re: precision rifles... show em

My first "issued" sniper system was an M86. I loved the rifle. I wish they still made them. I built my last rifle to be a M86ish rifle, but I would still love to have an original. Nice rifle!

Sweet! Your rifle looks identical to the original. I always kinda' wished that I'd gotten the desert camo like yours. It looks better. Harris McMillan let me choose my components and I ended up talking with Gary Schneider a couple of times before I ordered his tube. He sent me a good one. These rifles are so easy to shoot they should be called the iM86. They are truly "point and click".

The M86's are very accurate. If you were to look closely at my "copy" you would see a lot of differences, but the McHale stock gives me the look and feel of the M86 I was issued. The rifle I had was built before Harris Gunworks separated from McMillan. It came with a molded in desert camo stock which is why I choose that for my build. I think my wife would have preferred it to be a solid color. I was going to use a Remington action, but when I started looking, I found it was cheaper to buy a custom action that didn't need to be "trued", so after looking around I went with a Stiller Tac 30. Jerry offered to barrel the rifle for me and had a Mike Rock cut rifle barrel. He threaded it for a Vais brake, (which I rarely use)and sent the barrel off to be Nitrated. I won't bore you with all that Jerry did but I will say that he went above and beyond what I expected. I am very happy with the rifle. It shoots very well and gives me a trip down memory lane everytime I pick it up. I still look around for original M86's though. They really are great rifles. Here's three 5 shot groups from 100 yards fired from my M86 copy, that are a pretty fair representation of its performance. It will of course shoot a little better "when I do my part".

I'll play....
Wade and the boys at Surgeon put this bad boy together as part of a project I am involved with. It is such a sweet piece of equipment, I truly believe it needs to be shared.

Surgeon "Scalpel" w/24" fluted Krieger in .308
Surgeon 591
Jewel Trigger @ 2/lbs
JAE-700 Chassis in Coyote Tan and Black
Nightforce 3.5-15x50 w/MLR2
Nightforce Mount (lightweight hardware)
Atlas Bipod

The only thing not pictured is the Accu-Shot Mono-Pod which is inbound now.
