Hello guys, new to this sight, and fairly new to bolt guns. I am buying a 20'' Remington 700 Police, for my first dive into the precision bolt guns.

While not made of money, I do spend good $, on good gear. What are some good options for a good (tough, and well made), drag bag for this gun? What length will I need? I am not neccesarily wanting one with a mat, just a bag. Thanks for the help, Josh

Re: Drag bag/Case

I have been looking for some time for the "perfect answer" to the question you are asking. I am not made of money either, and I have yet to find a bag that fits my needs, with a price that I can make happen.

I will be keeping my eye on this thread for such an answer!!

Re: Drag bag/Case

Although it does come with a mat, take a look at the "short" Tac Ops bags on the libertyoptics web site.

While not cheap, it is arguably one of the most over thought, toughest bags out there. If you want one of the best right from the start, you won't have to look further.

I have the short model for my Savage 10PC, 20" barrel with a RAD brake screwed on the end. The gun just fits with the brake, without the brake I have an extra 1-1/2" or so.

Tac Ops bags are great all around, I certainly have no complaints with it, however I find myself just using my Eberlestock Gunslinger II pack at least 1/2 the time, so at times I question the decision of buying the bag.

Re: Drag bag/Case

I use the Blackhawk. Tough as woodpecker lips. There are others that are more expensive (and cheaper) and have more features, etc. But the BH is rugged, reliable and well-thought-out. Has everything I've needed in terms of features. And has been riding with me now for the better part of 3 years w. no issues to the bag or, more importantly, my duty rifle.

If you are just using it to carry rifle to the range or competition, and it's sitting in a safe or closet most of the time... you would probably do fine with cheap bag from eBay. For $99, there are imports that will do fine if all you want are pockets and some basic protection and the 'drag bag' look.

I've thought about ordering a Tac Ops bag and some of the really high end ones... but it would be because I wanted it, not because it's far superior to the one I have now. And at one level... I really do want a Tac Ops bag. They make nice kit.

PS... never once, ever 'dragged' my bag. The really HSLD guys at military schools get to drag things. Or at least are required to on stalks. For us mortals, a good carrying case is just fine. Mine rides in the rear of a Tahoe cruiser.

Cheers,

Sirhr

I just looked up that case. WOW, is all I can say. That thing looks toughly built, and amazingly thought out. I would love to be able to see one in person, but even if I don't, I will probably still own one.

My drag bag during the course consisted of a rifle storage bag with the zipper up the side that I got at Walmart for something like $20. A old bdu pant leg pulled over the top with a length of 550 tied to the loop at the top of the bag broke up the black color and allowed me to pull it behind me between my legs with the other end of the 550 in my hand. It worked great and was anything but HSLD.

Re: Drag bag/Case

So let me clear it up a little. Do I need a drag bag that I am going 1000 miles behind enemy lines with? Uhhh, no. I just like and appreciate good gear, and like good cases that protect my investment.

That said, I have a little time to make a decision. I appreciate the reccomendations guys. I like the Tac Ops. I also like Gunslinger pack/bag as well, but think it might be a little much for my needs. Voodoo makes some decent priced middle of the road gear, so I may check it out as well.

I am still open to more suggestions. Thanks guys, Josh

Re: Drag bag/Case

I bought one of those cheap midway drag bags just to use as a bag and it works perfectly fine. I'm not dragging it or anything I'm just carrying it to the range and back home. I also have a voodoo tactical dragbag/shooting mat. Honestly it's cool but I don't like it as a mat that much, the padded pockets make it uneven. I really like my Gunslinger 2 bag but not sure if you were looking for a backpack.

Re: Drag bag/Case

Some good suggestions in here... Have you taken a look at any of the Galati Gear products? They make a QUALITY product and aren't terribly expensive either. Personal favorite of mine is their Deluxe Shooting Mat/Case combo. I still use from time to time an old crappy NC Star case I won at a match awhile back and the quality difference is huge. Much sturdier padding, heavy duty zippers, functional...etc

I have a few of their drag bags and a Deluxe mat still in stock if you're interested...

Re: Drag bag/Case

I have to second the cheapo Midway bag. It is not as well made as the Voodoo, Blackhawk, TAC, etc. but for the price, I have had mine 2 years of range and hunting time. It has been on the ground, back of the truck, mule, etc. Looks like new. I tossed the zipper pulls (they truly suck) for some 550 cord pulls.

I cut out the majority of the tie downs inside the bag and took off the nose cover by going around the nylon pull strap.

For $75 this deal cannot be beat.

Re: Drag bag/Case

Another vote for the Midway bag. I have 2 that I've used for range bags and hunting for a couple of years now with no failures of any kind (except for the junk zipper pulls).
