Well it is finally finished! I've been working on this since June when I came to the realization that my AR wasn't practical for my use and decided to scrap it and start over. I got the chance to meet some great guys throughout the process and I learned a ton. I want to thank Brian @ Werner Arms, Scott @ Liberty Optics, Pat(onedayer), redirt78, RagnarDM, Trident1982, Downrange1x, and Snyper. I couldn't have done it without you guys, thank you. And now on to the good part.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Josh I am sure I speak for all those who contributed in saying CONGRATULATIONS for a job WELL DONE! She's a beauty and you built her buddy... WOW! Here's to many years of enjoying the fruits of your labor. Again, GREAT JOB!

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

She's a killer. Looks real good and I'm sure it shoots. The hogs are in deeper than ever. Nice build man

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Sweet job bro!! Now let's see the hawg count in Texas drop. Still willing to come down and help you with that problem.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Thank you guys. She probably won't be seeing much hog action until after deer season in February. I'm going to the ranch next weekend though so she'll probably get a few does under her belt. I still need to find some affordable ammo to feed her.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Haha roger that. I was planning on using SW 75 grain OTM's like you said but they discontinued them so I have to find something else. I'm thinking Sierra 63 grain soft points.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

I just got back from the range and I must say, this setup is 1000x better than the old setup. I went through 40 rounds of Hornady 75 grain BTHP and by the last 10 or 15 rounds the groups began to open up a little bit but not too much. The first three 5 shot groups were under 1 inch but I couldn't get the targets because we had to leave and couldn't wait till the next cease fire...oh well. I'm very happy with the rifle though. I can't wait to shoot some hogs with it this weekend.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Couldn't have done it better myself friend...outstanding job putting that one together.

It's really nice to see when someone really does their homework, and then ends up with the reward they deserve for doing so.

Your very deserving of such a nice rifle, now let's see how you can shoot with it

ETA.... when you have the time, buy a box or two of Hornady 55gr. Vmax. At 100yds it most likely will out group those heavier loads by quite a bit.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Very slick gun my friend! I can't imagine the difference between the barrels, that new one will serve you well!

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Thanks trident, I'll have to try out those VMAX's next time. I'm headin to my cousin's farm in a few minutes so hopefully I'll get the chance to test it out on some hogs or coyotes tonight.

Would you recommend putting a Battlecomp on it? I really like the idea of it but I'm just worried about the flash and the noise. I hunt at night a lot so I don't want too much flash and I don't like to wear earplugs if I don't have to. If its similar to an A2 FH then I might try one out.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

What reticle are you running in the triji?

I've got three of the things now and will keep buying them. Great glass for night time work. I put a 3-9 amber crosshair dot on my darling's 17fireball and it's an effin widowmaker now. put a #4 amber dot in the 1-4 on my 300blk suppressed upper and just bought a 2-10 red triangle from a fellow 'hider for my new 22-250.

Just wait til you start working those hogs over in the dark-thirty hours, you're gonna love it!

Post up some kill pix and let us know how she's doing.

For ammo options, I got a shit ton of the blue box Blackhills 68grn hp's last year and all my 8 or 9 twist barrels love it. It butt slamms the pigs too.

Cheers,
Breeze

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

While I think the BAC 1.5/2 do offer some real noticeable differences, and for some ARs I do believe they at least provide measurable performance gains over the stock A2 devices.

I was fortunate enough to receive several BACs, and a BABC in order to perform some testing back when they first came out. I currently have three ARs with BAC devices...

1.) MRP SBR 10.5" w/ BAC 2.0
2.) DD LW Mid 14.5 w/ BAC 1.5
3.) MWS 16" w/ BABC

The only one of those three that I would personally go out and spend the $150-220 it costs for one is for the second rifle listed.

For an SBR, it has plenty of benefits, and to be honest very few disadvantages over the A2 on these particular types of ARs. Bottom line be it an A2 or BAC device, a 10.5" is gonna be loud, and produce significant amounts of muzzle blast. That said, I wouldn't call it a $150s worth of upgrade.

For the MWS, it has some nice benefits such as it slightly reducing recoil, and at least stays on par with the standard .308 A2 device in terms of flash suppression. Personally I don't think the juice is at all worth the squeeze on this one even though sure I'd take the BABC over the stock A2.

Lastly, the midlength 14.5" DD, BCM, etc. LW models were imho born for having BAC 1.5s in tow with them. This device on these particular unique configurations, really do complete the total package that is a incredible fast handling/shooting 14.5" AR....that has been smoothed out exponentially in comparison to say a 14.5" M4 type w/ carbine gas and stock A2 device.

The BAC along with nowadays a SD-3G trigger on that rifle is really unlike any other shooting AR I've found. It puts woman to sleep shooting it.

SHORT ANSWER: For your rifle, I think you already have the best muzzle device for it...which is the AAC blackout devices, or the Vortex device.

For a 5.56 precision AR....taming recoil is essentially the same as taming it on a ruger 10/22, so recoil reduction by way of the BAC for your rifle doesn't really do anything as I'm sure you have no problems following your own shots with it. Now in terms of muzzle rise reduction...I highly doubt you built that laser beam for dumping mags, and running CQB stuff. So again the BAC's ability to compensate for muzzle rise is by in large wasted just like it is in the recoil reduction aspect from above.

You got the perfect device currently for what I think your rifle was built to do. I'd be buying a box or two of Hornady 55gr. Vmax instead of a new device

I got the duplex reticle with the green dot. I've actually never really had very good luck with hollow points on hogs but then again I was using cheap ammo and it was 55 grain so idk. I'm partial to soft points but I'll try out the Black Hills hp's. And I would LOVE to get a silencer but I doubt it will be anytime soon. Now that the AR is done I'm going to start paying for my own diesel and putting money away for college so that doesn't leave much for a silencer. I might start a silencer fund though lol. We'll see...

Yeah this rig will never see any rapid fire, unless of course I get charged by a hog or something. The recoil with the Vortex isn't bad at all, I was just wondering if the BC was a better option and it looks like I'll be sticking with the Vortex.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Gotcha on the soft points, my favorite -250 round is 55grn sp. It does kill stuff dead.

The win 64grn power points are good too, that's winchesternese for soft point.

The 68grn'rs are right at 24% more mass than a 55 and that's considerable.

That green dot will be easy to place on them critters at night, the tritium is just enough; but not too much.

Cheers,
breeze

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Nice rifle Pigman.

I have/had rifles with BC, Vortex, A2 and VLTOR VC-2 muzzle devices.

My least preferred is the Vortex because of the debris it kicks up when prone.

The BC does work to tame recoil some and has a closed bottom but it is loud.

The VLTOR VC2 is nice and similar to an A2 but not sure if it is worth the addition cost ($50 vs $10).

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Im really liking the price tag on those black hills 68 grainers! I'll definitely be ordering a box soon to try em out.

I shouldn't have a problem shooting prone with the Vortex. I'm getting a Galati drag bag/shooting mat so when I shoot prone I'll either be laying down on that or on top of the barn.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

I went to my cousin's farm over the weekend and didn't see a single animal besides deer until yesterday. I was driving up to the barn and saw a bobcat running towards the brush 100 yards away so I got up on the barn as fast and as quietly as I could, got everything set up and just waited for it to come back out. A few minutes later it came out and I watched it creep down the brushline for about 10 minutes. I got the gun ready and waited for it to stop and nailed him in the shoulder with a Hornady 55 grain soft point at 200 yards. He hit the ground for a couple seconds and then got up so I tried to put another round in him before he got in the brush but I guess it didn't hit him. I looked for him for a little bit but couldn't find him. A couple hours later we were getting ready to leave and a coon came walking through the field. I got the gun ready and dropped him at 200 yards. I can't wait to try some Black Hills 68 grains on some hogs and yotes. Here's a couple pictures of the "stand" and the coon:

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Nice. It has been about two weeks since I killed something. Getting the itch though. Ready for my SWFA 1-6 to get here so I can slap it on the Seekins/Noveske build. Mine is a 16" with the N4 barrel. I haven't shot that one much, trying to wait on that scope

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Man that is going to be an awesome rifle with that 1-6x on top. I wanna see pictures of it when you get it finished. I think I might be upgrading from the Accupoint to an HDMR in January or February. I'm going to start predator hunting ALOT more this year and I want to be able to reach out and touch some yotes. Also, what is a Noveske N4 barrel? I've heard that term a lot but I have no idea what it means. What's the difference between a regular Noveske barrel and an N4 barrel?

Also, if you ever want to upgrade that crappy Seekins lower to a premium top of the line tacticool RRA lower in mint condition just let me know and I'll trade with you

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Do you reload? If so I'm getting excellent accuracy with this barrel pushing a Nosler 77gr custom comp on top of 23.6gr of Tac in a LC case loaded to mag length.

You are gtg.

I paid $240 for that thing, I'm not gonna let you leave it out lol. Anyways, thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm definitely a fan for life of all the above. It's my first experience with all of them and am very impressed. I thought people were full of it when they said that they could fall asleep on their SOPMOD. But now that I have one, I can honestly say I could EASILY take a nap on it.

</div></div>

And no, I do not reload. I just don't have the time or money for it. And there's really no point since I'll be in college next year and REALLY won't have the time, money OR room for it. I will definitely get into reloading after college though.

</div></div>My N4 is chrome lined, not usually as accurate as what you have but has really long life. The N4's have roughly double the thickness of chrome than a normal chrome lined barrel. I believe they are full auto rated and better for long strings of fire. Came across a good deal on it and a matched LMT bolt on here and had to pick it up. I also don't have a Seekins lower, the one it is on is a SunDevil. Like to get the matching Seekins one day though. I'm not sure I would go with the 3.5-21 HDMR on a 15 but you could get a lighter Bushnell with the G2 reticle. I really like the HDMR and love the reticle but it would really weigh down a 15 if you plan on carrying it all over Texas.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Oh okay thanks for clearing that up. And about the HDMR...holy crap! I thought it weighed around 20-22 oz but I just looked and it weighs 34 oz. That thing is a tank! I'd love to have that magnification range but I couldn't justify that extra weight. Every ounce counts when you're in the field so once again I think I'll be sticking with my Accupoint for now. If only Trijicon would come out with a 10 oz 1-25x50 Accupoint for let's say...$1k?

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

That thing is freakin sweet. If it weren't for my SBR's, 18in barrels would be my favorite length to shoot. Sweet build

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Good looking rifle. She'll be a shooter for sure. I have a 16" Recon that I was shooting steel with at 700 yards the other day. Noveske makes an awesome barrel

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Nice rig. I've got a noveske 18" barrel on a mega upper lower with an ssa-e. all I need is my handguard so I can shoot it.... Oh and my SS 1-6x. I'm expecting good things.

Re: Noveske 18" SPR

Haha that's great Boone. One of my whitetails in my room is wearing my Noveske hat.

Thanks for the kind words guys. My cousin and I are going to be predator hunting for the next couple weeks over Christmas break so I should have some kills to post soon. I'm probably going to be using Black Hills 69 grain BTHP. I can't wait to nail some yotes!
