Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I have not had that problem, but I have a friend that has. DTA will warranty the part.

There is also the Aluminum version that is available for an additional $85.

Call DTA up and they will take care of you.

For a mere $85 your wish comes true. Personally, I think it should come that way from the factory.

</div></div>

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I agree 100%, I mean, with this rifle personally, you cant baby the bolt and the polymer just isn't going to cut it. for the coin, it should come with this part..oh well, at least i wont have future issues. This rifle is a tank otherwise though, beautiful stick and well thought out. The trigger is damn nice and I give them an A+ on this rifle all day..

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Unsure about the 2-stage timeline as we have other things that have taken priority at the moment.

Has anyone been shooting their HTI's guys? We have sold you all a bunch of them, how are they doing for everyone? We also shipped out a bunch of 375CT ammo and all I'm hearing is crickets. I know the ammo and guns are good but maybe the weather is too cold for shooting now?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I just want to thank DTA for contacting me immediately and getting the issue resolved with my cracked butt-plate no questions asked. I opted with the aluminum butt-plate because I tend to rack the bolt pretty hard and failure in the field would be unacceptable.. Other than that, awesome stick.

happy to hear it defcon. looking forward to more updates with more rounds downrange...

We put a Video of new bolt design up on Comlink

We also posted accuracy targets with DTM .338LM out to 1 mile.

Cold bore 1800 yard shot with the 375CT just last week. I would say the gun and ammo shoot!

I am also anxious to see some results, and feedback from owners of HTI's. I've been on the fence about ordering one. I need a little extra encouragement.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I just got my DTA SRS with the 300 WinMag and 338 LM kits. So far, I've only shot the
300 WM at the range last weekend and was getting groups where rounds were touching as I was zeroing in my NightForce NXS 5-22x50. Really impressed with this rifle so far! Only complaint was ejection of spent shells from breach. One call to Desert Tactical and they immediately admitted they had some firing pin and ejection spring deficiencies with the 300 WM bolts. I had a new spring and firing pin via First Class a few days later. Great customer service!

Just watch out guys they sneak up on ya... And this is missing one barrel I had left in my soft case

Indeed, by the time I make it back to the States in January my collection will have grown significantly.

16" .308WIN
26" 6.5x47L
18" .338LM
26" .338LM
18" 12.7x48

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

i have been thinking a 22-250ai might be fun....

I am dying to hear reports back on the HTI as well particularly the .50BMG which will probable be my next big purchase.

Curious as well. Ever since the HTI was announced I've been contemplating replacing my EDM with one.

I figured this was a better place to put this. For all you guys on the fence, let me show you how fun these can be, or at least how much fun I've had:

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Nice cb, I got one but still very cool...

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Great Video Cold Bore.

Since I picked up my DTA, I have gotten rid of a few rifles and a couple more have been collecting dust and may need to go soon too.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Are there any DTA owners with engineering proclivities (or DTA's very own engineers) who have done any DTA action stress analysis, barrel harmonics analysis, optimum barrel time, or even optimum charge weight analysis?

I came across these links and wondered if any DTA owners have explored these areas:
http://www.varmintal.com/amode.htm
http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com
http://www.the-long-family.com/optimal%20barrel%20time.htm
http://www.varmintal.com/abolt.htm

Fascinating research leads for DTA enthusiasts.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

DTA does a .338NM conversion kit, so you don't have to have one made by a 3rd party smith.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Dogtown do you know the price difference with a DTA 300NM compared to a barrel done buy SAC?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

You'll have to ask SAC, but it's been brought up many times here: DTA's factory barrels are good to go.

There are really only two reasons I can see for getting a 3rd party barrel conversion:

1. if DTA doesn't offer a particular cartridge

2. if you're dead set on a specific barrel manufacturer.

DTA has been using Lothar-Walther supplied barrels and they shoot fantastic.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

SAC does melonited barrels, and he will thread it to 5/8's so you don't need an adapter.

Some of the reasons to order from him IMHO.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Thinking of getting one of this setups, but would like to see some accuracy test on paper.
Anyone have any 5 shot groups with the different calibers?

This is a long thread over the course of a couple years - dig through and you'll see plenty examples of how accurate these rifles are.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I slung some lead with patches last night that start this thread abd we were talking about how long this one got

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I need to get some trigger time behind one to help make a decision, or at least handle one.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Don't know how far you are but I've got a covert with 308 and just got 260 conversion, too busy too even work a load up. More than welcome to stop by, I got a 300 yd shot from my yard. I hope to get up to tvp later in the month or first of the year.

These are as accurate as any rifle out there. I own multiple GAP rifles, Kelbly, McWhorter, APA, Blaser. These are as accurate as any of them, if not more so.

If you are in or near Salt Lake City, give me a call and I will try to meet you at a range so you can demo one.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Hi Everyone and happy Holidays.

I am curious is it possible to convert my SRS
Gen 1. Into a covert ?
Then I would get a Gen 2 SRS also..

Thanks in advance for any info

Pretty simple on that....buy the short handguard and install it on your SRS. Now you can use the shorter barrels. Its listed on the DTArms website. Many of us have done that and it does make the rifle a bit more useable with the shorter barrels.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

When you guys clean your rifles, is it easier to take the barrel out or just leave it in?
