I did a forum search to see if these have been discussed before and found some threads from 2009-2010. Anybody have any recent experience with them? I'm interested in the tactical illuminated model for a dual purpose GAP .308 that I want to use for hunting and also 600 yard range shooting. I was looking at the NF 2.5-10x for on top since it is lighter weight but saw the March and was intrigued because it's not much heavier and the 25x high end magnification is great for range shooting.

Thoughts/experience/previous thread links I may have missed?

Due to Japanese law, I've spoken with their CS multiple times and they WILL take care of you beyond the 5 year period. They are a great company with a great product and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Don't have the 2.5-25x but I have the 3-24FFP built on the same body and it is absolutely incredible. The 1-10x and 5-40x are also stellar, they are the only optic I will use besides S&B or aimpoint.

ETA: My cousin lives in Columbia and I go up there about once or twice a month, I'm down in nova. If you ever want to look through a March just shoot me a PM, I know they are pretty rare especially in these parts.

My opinion, use for their purposes March tac.ill.FFP 3-24, more opportunities FFP, real minimum focus - 2.5 meters, length and weight advantages.

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

I agree about the quality of March( glass, mechanics, materials). March is vey popular between benchrest shooters. My only concern was about warranty. And now i'm very happy to hear they will take care of their customers beyond 5 yars period.

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

I have 2 March scopes.

The 5-50 and the 2.5-25x. Both are as good as it gets.

I have scopes from virtually every major high end manufacturer. If I had to choose 1, it would be March.

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

I would recommend the March F 3-24 42mm as mentioned above. Quality optics, FFP for ranging, tactical turrets with great zero stop, mil/mil, $2260 non illuminated with 3 inch sun shade, best near focus of any and can get you out past 1000. Have the FX 5-40 56mm also. Would not part with either. About 2/3 rds the length and weight of other high ends scopes and no 6-12 month wait to get (at least not at this time). Many great reviews online, which convinced me to buy and I have not been disappointed. Takes Butler Creek covers #14 ocular and #31 objective.

And Schmidt and Bender only have a 2 year warranty on PM11 scopes. I found out the expensive way!

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

Why are the illuminated models of the 3-24 March $600+ more expensive? Anyone using one that can explain?

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

All illuminated scopes are more expensive and according to one review only add about 10 minutes of extra hunting time at dawn and dusk. May also help you during the day when reticle might get lost against dark background. I have never felt the illumination was worth it, except for red dots for quicker target acquisition.

Either because they can (market rate) or because it really costs that much to add illumination. I suspect it's because they can; it's hard to believe that cost to build plus profit is $600.

I can guarantee you that it's correct:)

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

I ask because in the March 5-50 the illuminated is only 200 more. Anyone using illuminated March scopes and do they like them?

If you are a generic "hunter", it's true that an illuminated reticle will only give you a few extra minutes at dusk where you can make a shot you otherwise couldn't have. Is that worth $600? I bet you'd think so if you were $7500 deep in an Elk hunting trip and saw a nice big bull but couldn't take the shot because you couldn't see your reticle well enough to hold on him.

Also...

There are MANY times, particularly for "tactical" shooting where an illuminated reticle makes all the difference. You can light up a target with a laser illuminator, and see it great in your scope, but without illumination, you can't take the shot.

For an actual sniper, you might want to make a shot into an encampment or bivouac that has enough lighting to see/identify a target, but again, not enough to see your reticle properly.

There is a reason illumination is a popular option for scopes, and it's not just because the mall ninjas think it's cool.

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

Found out through some PM chatter with a member that the eye box on these are pretty bad when you go from the low end to high end magnification. Anyone else who have one experience this as well?

Re: March 2.5-25x Scope Question

From the reviews I've read the eye box gets a little picky past 20x. However 3-20x is quite a nice range. I'm really considering one of these for my Maten build.

It was pretty bad for me. Enough so that I would not purchase the scope. My friend that had it sold it for that reason. Others say they have no issue with it. I would highly recommend you get behind one before making a purchase.
