My favorite reporter of all time, what a douche:
"He had smuggled the compound bow — a type much more powerful and effective for hunting than a simple, wooden bow — onto campus beneath a blanket, Walsh said."
Next up on the 5 o-clock news, wooden bows, th e safer less powerful bow.

"He said Christopher Krumm also had two knives with him, and the knife used was "very large."" Soooo what if it was a small knife? How big is "very large"?

Why must these assholes comment on shit beyond their scope of intelligence? Its a tragedy. Report the news and leave it at that.
Why do I never hear about a rape story, "The dick used on the victim was very large" I guess even reporters have some sense of decency.

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

It's funny how people read a story and take different things from it. I'd read a larger version in our local paper but really didn't even comprehend the "powerful bow, or large knife".
I guess I'm just used to the sensationalism from the media.

What pissed me off is the stupid cunt neighbor who saw the body laying in the street gutter, and went inside with her 7 year old daughter to watch tv and have snacks, didn't make a call either.
I mean WTF!!!

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

I have to believe the neighbor called the police, but went inside and closed the blinds for the benefit of the child. I am actually hoping the media goes crazy with this story. The crazier they get with it, the more gun rights will benefit. I have a strong suspicion that it will not get much attention though. It does nothing for their anti-gun agenda.

By the way, if any of you ever decide to kill me please use a firearm and not a bow or knife. An arrow to the face has to really suck.

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

The funny thing is that the wooden English Longbow was far more effective than the crossbow... and could easily rival the compound bow in terms of accuracy and power.

Of course, you had to spend a lifetime to master it. Skelatons of longbowmen showed deformation of bones indicative of the development and stresses on their arms/shoulders, etc. It was not a 'part time' job.

The longbowmen were about the most feared soldiers on the pre-gunpowder battlefield.

And I believe that longbows were made of Yew wood and sinew... they were certainly not space-age metals and polymers!

Just goes to show that idiot reporters don't even have the sense or motivation to even look up something on Google... much less know what they are writing about.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

You made my point very well Sirhr. It takes very little research to learn in fact, that the dreaded "assault bows" were made of wood and had no cables or cams. Cables and cams do nothing to make the bow more powerful per se, but make it more easily drawn by the casual archer.

The woman retreating to her house was no surprise. That has become the norm in our society. Makes me think of Carlin's airline announcment skit where he illustrated how he had to get out of the plane if it crashed. Something along the lines of, climb over the fat guy, step on the midgets head, push down the war widow, etc so he could get out of the plane, run to a nearby farmhouse, have a Dr Pepper and call the police. Funny but becoming all too true today.

Their comments are the WHOLE thing. Idiot "journalists" use language to generate emotion so they can turn people's minds. Plus, the web page or paper the news is printed on MUST be filled up to have people look at the page long enough to look at the advertising. They don't get jobs if companies don't pay for advertising, and companies don't pay for advertising if people don't read their shit. Ergo: "journalists" use emotional emotional words to drag stupid readers into a story.

Freedom of speech is critical to freedom in general, but leaves a wide door open for ridiculous reporting.

Spot on. Bows almost seven feet in length have been excavated with draw weights over 150lbs. Imagine that with a heavy 1000 grain wooden arrow. These longbow archers were the real deal-no wonder it deformed their skeletons. I dont know of any modern compound with the raw power of the old longbows.

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

Only a matter of time before the control freaks try to go after the evil "assault" bows and knives. You can see the bias to ANY weapon in that article.

Re: Coming soon:Assault bows and knives

Several years ago an Atlanta reporter reported about a police raid in which the officers found assault pistols, assault rifles, and one assault crossbow.
I can see it now.....a cross bow that is selective fired, gas operated, with a large capacity quiver. The gas to operate it comes thru a tube that is plugged into the nearest gas producing bodily orifice....
Stupid reporters.
