I know this is a topic that has been beaten to death over the years but I'm down to either the AX or the XLR and i'm finding myself stuck with which one to get.

Anyone have both and have any input?

thank you

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

You live in TX where there is alot of comps/matches going on all the time. If it were me, I'd spend a weekend driving to one or two and actually get behind a few different makes before you commit to buy one. The guys shooting won't mind letting you get the feel of it, atleast they shouldn't. I've had a AICS and a AX and I didn't fall in love with either of them. The AX was better, but not to my liking. It's all personal preferance.

I'd like to try a XLR and a W3......

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

I had the time to finally get behind an AX today. It is an extremely well thought out chassis and incredibly ergonomic. The grip is bigger than what was on the AICS which is good since I have large hands. The cut out for prone magazine changes are also another very well thought out feature. If weight is your primary concern I would probably go with the XLR though.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

i really like the looks of the XLR... buddy has an AX and I did not like it as much as I thought I would but I did not adjust it up for me. The AX is about 2X the XLR price or at least several 100 more.. you could take the extra cash and buy ammo glass or something else.

Swing over and see the WieBad boys and check out a Rock Solid.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

Had an AI 2.0 for years and just sold and bought a whiskey 3. Never held one until it showed up. I still like the AI, still have a 1.5 on a 223 savage, but loving the W3. Easy to adjust and super comfy. Worth a look.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

Have you checked out the XLR carbon? I haven't handled one but they look great. I met the XLR owners at last years Oregon Sniper Challenge and they seem like a solid group of guys. You can't go wrong with either stock but XLR gets my vote.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

Had to make the same choice a few months ago. Went with the XLR and am completely satisfied.

I need a folder for my long action surgeon or else it won't fit in my safe

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

Not sure you can find better CS then Kyle at XLR. Dude is always there to answer questions, unlike McRee.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

If you can shoot both (or at least play with each) that might solve your dilemma.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

I was looking at both of them. I didnt have a chance to handle any of them due to living in Kodiak so I finally had my decision made by the fact that I could get an AICS shipped out with no wait time while xlr had a 10 week lead time and whiskey-3 wasnt even making a folder for the m2008 action yet.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

I have the same dilemma. After speaking with many people, I have decided that their opinion really doesn't matter. I believe I'm going with the XLR carbon. I just cant get over how bad ass it looks, plus I have spoken to Kyle on the phone a few times and seems like a great dude.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

let us know when you get it and what you think of it.. not sure if I like the carbon! like to here some opinions on it from guys that buy one.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

I really like my XLR but wish it was lighter. If they made the carbon chassis for Tikka's when I got mine, I would have went that route. It's an excellent stock and one of the lighter chassis's out there, but anything to make it lighter would be a big plus. Kyle at XLR is kick-ass and the fact that they make the chassis for nearly every rifle out there is a big selling point.

Re: I can't decide on a damn chassis

My AX chassis getting built this week. Its what I chose in the end. Tried Rock Solid, like it a lot, feel it may be front heavy. The W3 has 'too much going on' to quote someone I know, but could be a great stock..just unproven in my community of shooters. The only other 'chassis' I would get is a manners mini chassis/dbm in a T4. You did not go wrong with an XLR, I just have little time behind one. Many people swear by it.

Surgeon 1086 that i had ion bonded
Obermeyer fluted 1:10 that im going to have finished at 24" chambered in 300WM
S&B PMII 5-25x56
and a surefire FA762SS

John Beanland has had my barrel for 4 months now holding my spot in line, hopefully i'll be able to get my action to him this week so he can chamber the barrel and get it screwed on.

After that i'll have a barreled action that i'll be looking at for 8-10 weeks.
