Hunting & Fishing My First Deer

My first deer. Taken in NE Wyoming in the Black Hills. 101 Yards. He was chasing a doe hard in the timber, and stopped in the only shooting lane I had, for just long enough for me to pull the trigger.

Shot with a 7mm-08 (Barnes TTSX). It wasn't as good a shot as one would want (I broke his back and had to finish him with the 9mm). He was much closer than anything I had shot out there before, and I didn't account for that when I placed the reticle. Now I know.

He sure does taste good!

Re: My First Deer

Nice looking buck, I look forward to hunting next year, Never been hunting for anything other than rabbits and coyotes. Probably feels good to get your first one!

Re: My First Deer

Congrats on your first deer. There is something very special about that first time.

Yes, there is. As a means of commemorating my first deer, I chose to load up and do a number of differing rituals: I smeared blood on my face, at his heart, and his balls!

Re: My First Deer

Nice buck to get started with. The Black Hills area is some nice cover to hunt.

Re: My First Deer

Heck of a first deer! Oh, and those spine shots make tracking a lot easier. I did the same thing on my last deer.
