Just finished up another barreled action for a customer and I had an extra Kenetic Research Group Whiskey 3 chassis just laying around. So I figured I would check it out.

I must say the rifle is very sexy. Since I had this stock, I went ahead and test fired it. Many groups were in the +/- 3/8" groups at 120 yards with Black Hills and Corbon Match. Here are the specs of the rifle.

Badger M2008 short action.
Bartlein M40 1-11.25" .299 bore, 30 cal.
Rem 700 trigger tuned to 3 lbs.
Cut to 17", threaded 5/8 x 24
TBAC 30 BA brake.
All metal Cerakoted Graphite Black.

Thanks for looking.

Mark

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

I wish I had that problem, stuff like that just layiing around!!LOL
Nice stick!!

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

"Just had a chasis layin around" Wow! Whiskey 3 or XLR??? This makes it tougher. How's the brake? I'm in the wrong business.
BTW sweet looking stick. If you ever do a give away to poor people like me... keep me in mind.

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

The badger goes great with the whiskey 3 sweet rifle

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

Freaking sweet. I think you should sell it to me

. The only problem is I am still trying to finish out my TRG and funds for that and training are short

. How much would you sell something like that for?

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

Oh man, every now and then you come across a build that just screams "badass". This is one of them.

Im getting something similar built at the moment, was going to get it finished at 20"... but this is swaying me.

MArk

Nice looking rig - how many of the chassis have you personally tested? Where does this one stand as far as comfort to shoot and stability?
.
Sorry to drive the thread sideways... but is that a 30BA on the front? How effective is it as a break without the can attached? I've been looking at the 338BA, but am a bit hesitant since I would often use it as a break without the can attached.

Jeff,

This is the second or third Whiskey 3 that I have personally shot and played around with. There are a lot of nice features that I like on the chassis. As everybody knows, nothing is perfect and everything has some kind of compromise. I like the McRee Precision chassis because its solid, has all kinds of adjustment, and I would not feel bad if it feel off a cliff and got all dinged up. However, it is not that sexy.

With that being said, I am really starting to like the Whiskey 3 Gen 3 folder. Cosmetically it looks great, It has all kinds of adjustment and unlike the McRee, the Whiskey 3 can be adjusted on the fly. The down side of the ability to adjust with out tooling is the aft end of the stock has slight movement in the LOP adjustment. Again, this is because you can work 2 throw levers and adjust on the fly...everything is a compromise.

Justin at KRG has really put a lot of though into this chassis and its evident just by thoroughly looking over the chassis. The forend has just about any kind of attachment points you could want as well and it looks like there are 2 slots milled lengthwise to help support and guide a Harris Bipod.

For shootability, a good quality bipod up front and a bag in the rear, you can drive this rifle just fine. I'm a fan of the Manners T4 rear end, I think its stable and easy to move around with a bag. Any chassis with a more narrow and "tall" rear end is going to be slightly less stable in a bag, but I did not find any problem with this. I also did some shooting in my rest and with a standard "double ear" type rear bag, it wedges its self in the bag nicely.

With the 30BA brake, it is pretty efficient and works really well. Shorter barrels obviously have a big fireball and concussion, but almost no recoil. I shoot mainly with a suppressor on and it is a great mounting system. It is similar to the DTA (18 TPI)but has a 24 TPI external thread with an angled shoulder to help center its self. So if you were going to run a brake alone, I would do the 338BA.

Here are some numbers that we have collected over time on chassis/stock weigh in.

KRG Whiskey 3, Gen 3 Rem 700, Short, Right, Gen 3, no mag, Folder...4.924 lbs.

KRG Whiskey 3, Gen 3 Badger m2008, short, no mag, Gen 3 folder...4.982 lbs.

Accuracy International AX, Rem 700, Short, Right, folding, no mag...5.464 lbs.

McRee Precision, Short, Rem 700, folding stock, no mag...5.348 lbs.

TRG chassis, no action, trigger or night vision rail...3.780 lbs.

MCS-T mini chassis, 2 cups, 1 stud, no magazine...3.814 lbs.

It's already spoken for... I'm going with a Manner's folder though, so just the barreled action is mine.

Re: SAC: Just another black rifle?

Very well done Mark. You're killing me with the builds...I'm looking forward to mine (uuhh, I mean my wife's) rolling out soon!
