If its the one with the tactical drop grip stock...get it...good stock...tack driving rifle

Re: Savage 10FP with Choate stock insight

I have the same rifle, I bought it from Cabelas, I'm pretty sure you can only get that particular rifle there, it's a "Cabelas special." The rifle shoots great, as far as the Choate stock, it's a knock off of an A5. Is not quite on par with the A5 obviously but it feels good enough, and does have an aluminum bedding block. Overall, for an $800 rifle, I like it, and it does its job well. I don't think you will go wrong with that stock. Are there better stocks for a lot more money? Sure. Is it a decent stock that looks like it will last? I think so. Will I be trading out my Mcmillan for one? Not any time soon.

I can get in a 223 and 308 I believe for $650 each.

Re: Savage 10FP with Choate stock insight

Thats a pretty good price! Could'nt go wrong at all for that kind of money. I gave $750 plus tax for mine in .308 in March at the Cabelas in Wheeling WV. Buy it, worst come to worse, you could probably sell for close to that much if you end up not liking the stock.

Re: Savage 10FP with Choate stock insight

Had one in 308, eventually became a 260 with a McMillan A5.

I had both bedded, can't say the McMillan does anything the choate doesn't, though the choate is heavy.

I have no qualms about recommending it, heavy but good all around gun. $650 is a good price. What twist is the 223?? I may need one

Re: Savage 10FP with Choate stock insight

I've owned three.

One turned Into my 260, another sold to a friend, the third is a 223 trainer I use.

The stocks are actually pretty nice and the rifles have all shot very well.

For 650 you can't lose.... The parts alone are easily worth that.

Just make sure it still has the side bolt release instead of the trigger guard and your good to go.

NIce!
I just picked up a Savage 11 in a Choate tactical stock in .223. Quickly becoming my favorite shooter!

1/9 on the 223. Shoots the 75gn Hornady's into little bitty holes.
