Re: SHWW Group

Bigger steel for us .308 guys!
whistle.gif
JK, I shot crappy and that's all there is to it.

The three plates at the KYL stage seamed to slide closer together due to the frame flexibility. Did I imagine that? The yokle safety factor made me nervous a couple times, but what are you gonna do.

Other than that, I thought the match was awesome. The stages were great. Good movement and positional challenges, I liked the time limits.

Re: SHWW Group

all right more condiments for burgers check

better target id check ( i tried wrapping tposts with caution tape but it didn't last/work cones it is i guess)

new kyl rack check

keep the suggestions coming it is invaluable input for the next one.

In april my tenative plan is to try and have 50 shooters 6 or 7 squads. 175-200rifle rounds and 50ish pistol rds. Plus we will have a custom rifle on the table as a prize.

Re: SHWW Group

Scott, not sure if you tried rustoleum or marking paint on the steel but I hear good things about it not flaking as quick. I will give it a whirl and let you know. As for the prize table, a custom Rifle is a sweet prize but I for one would rather see a good grab bag of prizes. So in saying that I will throw a scope on the prize table for the next match, mightn't be great but it will be something that anyone can use, my own way of giving back to the great crowd I get to meet at the matches.

Re: SHWW Group

That multi cam rifle with the Atlas bi pod has the bolt on the wrong side...
grin.gif

Looks fun!

Re: SHWW Group

BGE541, that's our Jake, obviously the bolt is on the wrong side but he's just challenging himself or is he? That's the question we often ask ourselves.

Re: SHWW Group

Jake, as you already know I've been blessed with two lefties myself, its just going to cost me more money in rifles in the future although I got one already for them.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks for the mention Jake and Ill be looking forward to a .280 build for you.

MM509, You might have the 308 class to yourself next time. I think I'm going to make some changes.

As for the match.
It was great keep the awkward positions, running (fast waddle in my case), small and hard to find targets in there. It is stuff like that that make it challenging and fun.

As for the food.
Who cares as long as it was hot when its that cold out.

The prizes.
That is all up to you. The rifle is over the top or maybe even too much. I worry that could make things more serious and less fun. I'm shooting to get away, have fun with good people and relax. I think that if lots money is involved it can take away from it.

I would like to say more but it sound like whining.

Re: SHWW Group

Have a truck for sale. Mamma got a new car and now we are looking at a house so my truck goes!

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9l turbo diesel. Has AEM intake, silverline 5 inch exhaust and Smarty Jr programmer with dyno charts to show power gains and safe egts/running. Truck is quad cab with tinted windows, all blue with long bed. Truck has the 48RE auto. Truck is not lifted and has 285/70-17 Nitto Terra Grapplers that are brand new. All maintenance has been performed in the last thousand miles (will list out if interested). Truck has 113k miles and runs great. Has high idle which is nice as well... asking 22k or best offer. My names Reed phone # is 757-75four-75two4. Truck is private owned and clean title. No trades. PM with phone number for pictures!

Thanks

Re: SHWW Group

I agree with better target markers even though I'm sure a lot the issue is with me but that dog house stage at the end of day one made it difficult as hell to see the target for sure, Left 24 points on the table there.

Other than that the match was fun as hell and challenging.

JD sorry I left you out on the thanks in the video, The sponsors weren't posted so I just grabbed what I could from here and hoped for the best

Great hanging with you on day 2 !

Marty good of you to offer something for the prize table, You mentioned at the match if everyone has something their not using to bring it and put it out there for people to take home.
Its a great idea.

Prize tables are pretty cool when everyone gets something even if its something simple.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks AtOne
I still havent figured out how I got in your squad but it was cool to hang out with you guys. As far as the video I didn't notice I was busy looking at the pics.

Oops, sorry I meant the other rack on that stage. The one with the three hanging squares. Big, medium, big, left to right. That's the one that looked like things slid toward the middle. (like my bed)

Love the idea of a potluck prize table.

The only input I could add is keeping the targets clean and visible between groups on a few stages, that is hard to do on that terrain and it would require a ATV. I know myself and a few shooters dropped a few points on the doghouse stage due to a few targets being near inpossible to see. Just a trivial thing I know, but I liked everything about the pace, COF, target size/distance and cant think of anyting that needs improvement. I have a cool idea for a stage that I will discuss with you via PM.

Re: SHWW Group

Scott, IMO, the rifle would be pretty awesome, BUT, I think for the kind of match you run, it would be way better to have 4 other prizes instead of the rifle.

Say-
$700 stock
$700 action
$300 barrel
$300 barrel Job certificate
$100 Pic rail
$100 trigger

You will make it a much better prize table. BUT, that being said, I would love the chance to win a rifle.......Just thinking about the masses and also keeping it fun and relaxed.

I also like the idea of a potluck prize table. Imagine if scott put together say 50 awesome prizes on his own, and then all 40 shooters brought something in the $50-100 range. It would be a win win for everyone

Re: SHWW Group

Here's a good example of how the target looked at the couch commando stage on day 2 when we got there.

We'll play where's waldo and I'll give you a hint...its not the posts in the center of the picture and there is only one target in the picture as one had already been knocked down.

xcllso.jpg

Mind you this is with my camera fully zoomed in on where I think the target is at, I do this sometimes just so I can look at it when I get home to see how difficult it is to see on stages where I can't find it before we start lol.

This is what another set of targets looked like the morning of day one.

30vopx1.jpg

Call me crazy but I have a hard time seeing it and I know where its at lol.

Re: SHWW Group

LoL coming from the guy that was looking through the spotting scope for two days at it I'm sure it is !

Although there is no target on the arrow that's pointing down, its just a post.

Re: SHWW Group

For future reference what are the orange big small big thing in the picture? Mind you im looking at this on a phone lol didn't see much by those arrows!

Thanks

Re: SHWW Group

Don't remember that the actual target 33% ipsc I think, it was a real bitch shooting out of the doghouse downhill at them on Saturday, by Sunday afternoon they had taken quite a beaten at least by then I was on the couch.

Re: SHWW Group

The orange squares are 12" 8" 12" steel plates set at about 600 yards.

Re: SHWW Group

Re: SHWW Group

Just a teaser. We are in the Very early stages of putting on a match that will be the first of it's kind in the industry.
We are looking at a June time frame, and to say this will test you way outside your comfort zone is an understatement.
The concept for this one has me very excited and it will be very challenging to pull off, but I've dedicated myself and our team to make it happen.
I should have a formal announcement after SHOT SHOW.

Re: SHWW Group

Dates for the series of 6 tactical/ practical matches in the Wenatchee area:
2-10-13, 7-14-13, 8-18-13, 10-13-13, 11-17-13.
These matches will be hosted by the NCW gun club.
You will not need to be a member of the NCW gun club.
We will be doing a cash payout at the end of every match.
There will be a prize donated by Precision Tactical at each match to the RO's pick.
The idea behind these match's is to learn and as such there will be thinking involved on the shooters part :)
The overall series winner will have a paid spot in
the 2014 Findlay Cup.
OH, and Broker and Bigwheels, semi's,long action chambering, and 300 and 'smaller' magnums will be allowed in this series.
A speed limit of 3100 will be one of the very few equipment requirements.
Feel free to call or PM me with any questions.

Jim you must be psychic- I checked the NCWGC webpage for monthly shoot dates yesterday. Thanks for your efforts, and I WILL make a couple of them this year.

You're killing me Jake... I'm gonna have to borrow someones bolt now so I have even a remote chance of the prize table...

Re: SHWW Group

Jake,

How will the match be scored? As in x point for first round hits or just x rounds in x minutes all hits count equal? Haven't shot a match like this yet so I need to figure out how to maximize my points per shot... looks like ill need it against this crew here in Wa! Good sponsor list as well. Thanks.

Ummm... by hitting the target!

1911fan

PS: Before anybody else says it, that's apparently NOT my strategy.

Re: SHWW Group

Points are going to be simple.

One point per hit. One bonus point for cleaning a stage. And one bonus point for first round hits. Maybe!

Re: SHWW Group

Well being bored, and having a great expanse out my kitchen window and back door to use, I decided to chronograph some loads @ 13 degrees from my 6x47 Lapua (H4350) and 6.5x47 Lapua (Varget) My last chronograph data was taken at 65 degrees.

The standard deviation/ES increased slightly for both loads. However, with a 50 degree temperature swing, the average velocity with H4350 only dropped 18 fps, and with Varget dropped 22 fps.

I'm pretty happy that my small sample (5 shots each) confirmed what the manufacturer is telling us about the Extreme powder line and its consistency.

Who wants to shoot today?

Re: SHWW Group

I've been *waiting* for it to actually get 'cold' here... I have a load I worked up with a new powder (2000MR) that I wanted to get a feel for how it behaves over a range of temperatures. Unfortunately the only data points I have so far are @ ~90F (late August), ~70F (mid September), and ~40F (mid November). Thus far... the velocities have been surprisingly consistent (2780-2790fps at all three temps), but I'm curious how it'll behave when/if we ever get down below zero or even single-digit temps.

Re: SHWW Group

Why dont you guys just put your rounds in ice? I love shooting in the cold especially with some humidity in the air so i can watch vapor trails through the scope.

But you can check the results anytime of year by producing artificial enviroments and getting HUGE temp swings, well over 100 degrees F.

Re: SHWW Group

I prefer to let the whole system (gun, ammo, everything) 'soak' at temp for some period of time, at least a couple hours. I don't have recent chrono data to back it up, but my instinct is that cold ammo in a hot barrel is not the ideal indicator of performance. Add in the potential for condensation forming on the casings (seen people blow the ejector clean out of the bolt shooting ammo 'kept on ice')... and I'll pass.

Re: SHWW Group

That's some good info there Dibbs.
Now get off that bench and practice some contorted positional shots
wink.gif

Re: SHWW Group

I left the rifle & ammo outside for approximately 1/2 hour before I shot, and while the temperature is warming up slightly, the equipment is still in the "freezer" so to speak.

AtOne, since you finished MUCH higher in the standings last weekend, please feel free to head this way and give me some lessons. I'm picking up an apple bin (aka doghouse) next week hopefully, since you said you SUCK er had problems at target acquisition from same(I left a few points as well!)

Is this year going to take the 3 best finishes again for the overall winner ?
