Got a new CZ 455 heavy barrel a few weeks ago. I had been wanting an accurate 22lr bolt gun without making my checkbook cry. Local dealer turned me onto the CZ line, and the rest is history.

Added a Grim Reaper Tactical 10moa scope mount, had barrel turned for suppressor (cuz yeah, 22lr needs a suppressor. That and my wife said it was cool, but she wanted a suppressor for her 22 also.) He was out of barrel thread protectors, so an A2 flash hider went on...because a 22lr needs a flash hider!

The scope mount he makes is different in that he machines the receiver to accept mounting bolts. The rail is bolted directly to the receiver, not just with set screws.

While he was at it, he also turned me out a cool bolt knob.

Topping it off is a PST 4-16 SFP mrad scope. Pretty bitchin set up.

Only thing I am waiting on now is my Manners stock and thread protector, then I will be trying my hand at digital camo!

I find the CZ to be a well put together rifle. Trigger is good for a factory trigger. It has been adjusted and has very little creep. Wood is some of the best I have seen on a rifle in a while. That said, I am going with a Manners.

Using American Eagle ammo, shoots nickle size 15 round groups at 50 yards. Really loves Wolf Extra match.

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

Any more info on the scope base? I like it, just cannot find any info on where to buy one and what slope options are available.

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

Nice rifle. Is that barrel the Varmint contour or the American? Really good looking stock on that thing. I have been looking at one of those for my sons. I love the switch barrel function.

I bought a Sako Quad a few years back when they were cheap. The 22 was fun for the squeeks. Then I bought a 17hmr barrel from Lilja. The 17hmr is just so much more satisfying for the little critters. Flat shooting laser and the acrobatics when you connect are often noteworthy. I love the ability to switch between the 22 for practice and the 17hmr for the squeeks. Good times.

Is your smith in Oregon?

ScO, the option is not yet listed on his site.

The scope bases, to my knowledge, will all be 10 MOA. Mine is done in steel, but I believe he said he wanted to do them in aluminum. I paid $40 for the rail and for him to drill and tap the receiver.

Twitch, did not realize (personally) that there was a difference. If there is a difference, let me know what that is and I will measure it out for you.

Jimichanga, that is the varmint contour. I love it, had a good weight to it. If you are at all hesitant, let me know, shoot me a PM, and maybe we can meet up somewhere (or you can travel to Klamath) and we can go shoot it.

My smith is Zack Cundiff at the above website. He deals in all the fun goodies: AR's (machines his own), centerfire and rimfire, suppressors, good stuff.

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

Zack has done all the work to the rifle at this time, bolt knob included. I will dig up what I have in to it in the AM.

As for Clint and Heidi, I have not seen them since I left Lakeview. They are great people, would be hard to meet better people than them that give so much.

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

Doing a little more, day by day. Got my stock in last night, got it bolted together to see if it is exactly what I am after. In a word, it is EXACTLY what I want. Now i need to find a Manners T4 for my Remington 700 308.

Fit is pretty **** good. I am going to go out and see how it shoots so I can determine if I need to skim bed or not.

Totally free-floated, may not bed at all, just run it like it is. Barrel is centered in the channel and has even space all the way down.

What she needs now is a fresh coat of paint. Going to do some sort of desert camo coloring. Going to sponge on the pattern later. Going to paint the barreled action as well.

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

Camo done. Base coat of rustoleum light tan (4 coats to cover up the baby poop beige). Used a sponge to apply the reddish brown, dark green, light sage green colors (in that order), followed by 2 coats of clear flat.

Disassembled the action and painted it ultra flat black (barrel, action, bolt knob assembly, rail, and thread protector).

Overall I am extremely pleased with the way this turned out. I am not a horribly patient person sometimes, but I was able to do this without rushing at all.

The only thing I am considering changing is painting the textured areas ultra flat black (a la Tac Ops).

Enjoy! If you have any questions, hit me up.

I like it! Shoot it yet?

Re: CZ 455 for pounding squeeks / 22 tactical matches

I have shot this rifle at one tactical match and target shooting. I have around 250 rounds down the tube, and it gets better each outing.

Since I have dropped it in the Manners Stock, I have not had the opportunity to shoot it. I wanted the whole paint job to cure. Probably take it out on Sunday.

For bolt action rifles under $500 (the way it started in the walnut stock), this rifle is a hammer out to 100 yards (as far as I have had it). If someone wants a solid quality rifle with a great stock and good stock trigger, this is the rifle. Fit and finish are head and shoulders above: Savage. Marlin. Ruger.

The only downside I see to the CZ rifle is the lack of bottom metal options. DIP makes one, but they are spendy. The stock one is OK, but I like a solid one piece bottom metal. Probably make my own...will see how that works out.
