Getting the parts around for my next project (still haven actually mailed my last project due to a complete lack of time). Anyhow I want to add some "class" to my safe and figured that would come VIA a Winchester Classic action. The Donor is a Winch sporter BOSS 300WM that has a walking problem after 3 shots. Not sure on going with a Krieger ChroMo or Stainless barrel though. Would either be all blued or blued/stainless combo.

    Question,

Whats the largest barrel I can fit in the factory sporter stock? Inlett is no worries but at some point you run out of wood and it looks funny. I would like to go with a 5.5 or 5 but not sure if it would work out.

I coulda used a Remington but theres something about a nice stick of wood coupled with a high polished blued winnie action.

I think a #3 or 4 is gonna be it, something in the .675 to .725 muzzle diameter is going to do it, prob have to do some fore end sanding with anything heavier.

I am glad that I saw this post. I have a pencil barreled sporter that I have thought about rebarreling but trying to use the factory stock. Was wondering how fat I could go (sanding assumed).
