Just catching up on the backlog of Doomsday Preppers and this latest group seems even worse than usual. These guys have big bucks but they still lack basic skills and common sense.

I liked the guys in the desert living off the grid, that seemed interesting. Now it's just complete nonsense.

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

From what I have gathered, there are so many different levels and types of prepping. You got some that are just flat out bonkers. The ones that plan for one specific, bizarre, and unlikely events like pole shifting, supervolcanoes, solar flares, make folks who just want to be prepared, look just as crazy. Its entertainment and once and a while you see something entertaining. There are some that have good ideas. I like the episode with the rich guy that dropped over half a million on a helicopter, pilot and semi full of emergency food.

He had a few sound choices, but I would not have wasted money on the chopper. Perhaps money on land, shelter, water rights and some education in living off the grid would be my choice. Oh, and not putting my plans on national TV would have been in order too.

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

They discredit themselves just by being on TV. The ones who aren't showing off are the serious ones.

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

how'd you guys like those bad asses in the Texas desert? The one guy was a chiropractor or something, and had apparently spent big dough on his set up. So his friend shoots his Sig .223 from inside a blind and chiro started crying and then puked on himself because the muzzle brake made the noise so big and scary.

He's definitely ready for the end of the world...those muzzle brakes are sooo loud and scary!

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

Still don't know why these people spend all this time & money to prep then air out their provisions, weaknesses, & locations on national tv. Seems counter productive...

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

Have you ever noticed how most of the people on the show are way overweight? Most of them couldnt run 50yds if they had to and most of them would fill there pants when the first round goes by there head...

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

Did you catch the one where the guy shoots his thumb off?

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

I think the whole point of the show is to A) cash in on what they perceive as a "fad" and B) fuel some airtime with the type of voyeurism demonstrated on American Idol etc. where borderline autistic people get mocked to their face and don't even realize it...

$2M on that compound they said, and apparently $0 on actual training. In their simulation the first thing they do when the badguys show up is to go outside and separate. They said the house had 7" thick bullet proof walls. Why not use those for cover rather than walking outside? Must be some of those advanced tactics I've not learned about.

The other thing I noticed is that their "security patrol" relied on ATVs and trucks. They have wind powered water pumps and whatnot but somehow they're going to get diesel and unleaded from somewhere? Wind powered refinery? I hate horses pretty much but if you're preparing for some end-of-days stuff having transport that can feed itself and turns into food when it breaks down seems like a nice thing to have.

He had a headset on too.

Last one then I'll stop. The rich guy who has the huge compound in CA and is afraid of mega-earthquakes. Dude, if you have that much money and are afraid of earthquakes... MOVE. If you're afraid of Jaws, move to Nebraska, don't try to fence off Florida.

(apologies if there are sharks in Nebraska. I've never been there and am just guessing by the lack of ocean front real estate that it's pretty safe from sharks)

Did you notice how the door to his bunker opened out? Pull a truck up to the door and leave it, everyone inside is screwed, no one can get out....

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

The only one I saw that I thought stood a chance was the hippie couple that bought the missile silo/bunker. Then at the end they tell you that the woman is a pacifist and the man looked like a fruitcake who would hide in the shitter if the bad guys came. Showed them sitting in a room with other hippies singing happy songs. WTF.

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

one thing i dont get about these dip shits in the bunkers, is these people brag about how they have all this shit. tvs, running water, video games, blah, blah, blah.

IF there is an end to the world, and infrastructure shuts down, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR POWER FROM?????? a solar panel that sticks out like a sore thumb??? wind mills that can be spotted from a mile away???

what you need is a farm in the wooded hills; horses, cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens, seeds, not power tools, a way to maintain them, etc etc etc. and the ability and knowledge to make use of the stuff.

ps, i have none of this stuff. lol just a good bit of guns and ammo, and an attitude to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and i am all out of bubble gum!

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

I think the reason they "prep" for weird situations is that the show pushes them to pick some kind of event.

The show is full of half-wits and retards being made fun of.

Being prepared is a good thing, but the show's producers have an agenda to make the practice seem like its for crazy or mentally-challenged people. I have a strong suspicion that their goal is for people to not be prepared and look toward the government for help when bad things happen. Where I come from, people have been "prepping" their whole lives, but that's just rural America.

People put out gardens, can, have a couple cows, chickens, etc. People not in town have wells. People have generators for when the power is out (often multi-fuel). People have 1000 gallon LP tanks. People have tractors, firewood, axes, chainsaws, gasoline/diesel tanks, wood stoves, storm cellars, and firearms. That's just the culture here. We had a major winter storm come through a few years ago and some parts of the area were without power for 40 days. Guess what? Life wasn't all that much different. I gathered perishables and stored them in my extra truck to stay cool so we didn't have to power the freezers or the fridge. We cooked on the wood stove. We powered up the generator for a couple hours to keep batteries charged. It wasn't all that complicated.

I really don't get why this is some kind of crazy phenomenon. I suppose people are realizing their urban lifestyles leave them without basic skills of our former agrarian society. Here in rural America, we don't worry so much about it.

Re: these preppers seem even dumber than usual

Somewhere online one of the people selected and put on the show commented about the experience. She said they didn't like her reason for prepping so they made a crazy one up to tell the audience.

I also recall that the show's Director wanted to pay her to shoot her cat on camera.
