Manners stock finally arrived after 17 weeks!!

It showed up from Stocky's about a week ago with the pillars already bedded, though the angle on the bottom of the pillars weren't correct for the CDI DBM. A few minutes on my mill corrected that, then a couple hours sanding the barrel channel to the correct size for my barrel.

I spent several evenings bedding the action and bottom metal, and finally got out to the range yesterday.

Here are the specs:
Manners T4 GAP camo
CDI Bottom Metal, AICS Magazines
Weatherby Vanguard action
Obermeyer 5R 6.5mm barrel, 8.4 twist
.260 match chamber reamed with a PTG .043 freebore, .297 neck
Weaver 20 moa base and Weaver lightweight 6 hole tactical rings
IOR Valdada Fixed 10x42 SF scope w/Fastfire 45* b/u sight


First trip to the range I took 100 rounds.

20 rnds loaded with each bullet, Nosler 140 custom competition, 140 SMK, 142 SMK, 140 Amax and Norma 130 Golden Target.

With each bullet, I had 5 rounds loaded with H4350 powder charges starting with 41.6, then 5 with 41.8, 5 with 42, 5 rounds with 42.2 and 5 with 42.4 grains.

Best groups were the Norma Golden Target with 42.0 grains, chronographed at 2850 (averageish), and the 140 Amax also with 42.0 grains, chronographed at 2750. Both shot about .6 groups at 100 yards.

All the loads I tried shot good, all under an inch. The 140 SMK shot some .5 inch groups but always tossed a flyer out about a half inch.

Overall, im happy as a pig in shit so far

I finished it at 22 inches, and used an inch of the stub to make my custom bolt knob. When you look into the bottom of the bolt knob, you can see the 5R lands and grooves

I was pleasantly surprised to see 2750 fps with 42 grains of H4350, 140 grain bullets and a 22 inch barrel, i expected a little slower than that. Maybe its a combinaton of the high altitude and the tight obermeyer bore.

I had to order a special pilot that was .002 undersize for my reamer.

I had an awesome day at the range today. Loaded up 50 rounds, all with 140 Amax bullets and 42 grains of H4350. I loaded 5 at each OAL, in increments of .005 in, starting .005 off the lands, out to .03 off.

I expected some to shoot good and some bad, and to hopefully find an OAL my rifle liked.

It didn't work out that way, it shot them all pretty much exactly the same. I had 2 groups with a flyer, and I knew id tossed each flyer before i even looked at the target. The other 8 groups all looked like the pics below, within a few tenths. I was pretty happy, it seems to shoot great regardless of OAL.

Fair enough, I guess i should have read the rules.

Interesting that post count is considered an indicator of reliability, I would have thought time as a member, or something would have been more reliable an indicator.

Perhaps one could fax in a copy of thier FFL, Business License, SOT or something and forego the required 20 minutes of posting necessary to get ones post count high enough.

I typically come to this site and others to read and learn, so in 3 years I havn't really racked up alot of posts. In school I was always the guy in the back of the class, never spoke, noone even knew my name untill test day.

I guess i'll just have to stretch it out over a couple weeks then. Hopefully i'll feel more reliable as well as actually being so.

Only 80 more to go
