I went to my Aunts House tonight for Christmas dinner on her request we haven't talked in many many years. But she asked me to be there a half hour early not knowing it was I showed up on time. Well I was sitting there and she came out with a old gun and gave it to me and informed me that it was my dads first gun that he learned how to shoot with. This is really special to me because I had no clue it even existed plus my dad has been gone now for close to 20years.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Very cool. Nothing better than hand downs. What is it? You know it never really happened unless you post picks.

That was also my father's first rifle, and I intend that the same rifle will be passed down to my son when it's the right time.

That was also my first rifle. I still have it. If it has been shot somewhere short of a million rounds like mine you may want to wear some good safety glasses (like you should any way) when you fire it. Mine has loosened to the point that it spits hot gas out the bolt. A friend told me that there are a few gunsmiths that specialize in these little rifles.

Caution. Mine will only chamber 22 shorts. The action isn't long enough to extract and eject the longer cases.

The summer before I started grade school ( 6 years old ) my Mom bought mine at the local hardware store. She paid $18 for it and 2 boxes of Winchester 22 shorts. Then we went to her parents home and later we all went to the trash dump and they started me down this road of rifle shooting.

Good luck. Remember all the good times. Later in life the memories are what keep you going.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

I will be sure to use caution this one says it takes 22lr on the side of the barrel. Without you saying anything I just might have been a jack wagon and loaded one and not though twice I will be sure to be careful and make sure they fit before I go out and use it.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

This is my coolest Christmas present ever. My first kid. My son, Logan, born December 5th, 2012.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Jig,

Congratulations. Our youngest GRANDSON is Logan. He was born 06-DEC 9 years ago. He's a live wire. I wish I could capture his energy maybe in an inhaler. I would just like a puff just to help me finish what I have going.

Congratulations again. I hope you and he have a wonderful relationship together.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

My oldest got home the other day, he's getting a hug from his Lil' Sister.

It's feeling pretty cool right now.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

^^^ Now that is awesome! Awesome to get your son home! And more awesome that him and his sister have that strong of a relationship.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Well despite this is a present-less year, and I'm grateful for that since Xmas is so commercialized - cool stories above!!

My g/f and I parted ways before I lost my job but we never really went away, still maintained, and we are still maintaining even better than before so I can say despite losing my job I have gained a lot (My time, life, girlfriend, Karate etc)..

So I count my blessings as well!

Congrats x 2 above!

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Jig that is a great present.

Snowdin, I'm happy for you too. Hopefully you will enjoy that gun as much as your dad did.

997/, glad to see he's home safe and sound.

Re: My coolest Christmas Present

Jig and 997, you have us all beat! You are truly lucky people, especially when you consider the horrible things that are happening to other people around the world today as we write these words.

Prayers sent to friends in Syria who are there now trying to stop the carnage. Events there in general can be followed here:

Everyone have a Merry Christmas, and hug your kids, friends and pets for those who can't hug theirs.
