I'm thinking about getting either a G29 or G30 for concealed carry as I already own the full sized models.

Does anyone hare own either of these, and if so,would you recommend it ? My question is,how controllable is a very small pistol like this with either a heavy 45acp or high pressure 10mm auto ? Thanks....

I use the G26 or G29 as my CC pistols.

The 10mm has a wide range of ammo available to it depending on what you are able to handle. You can get some light recoiling factory loads that feel like a .40sw or you can go to the no Bull S*** Underwood 10mm ammo. The high power Underwood ammo was a little squirly until adding the pinky mag extension but its now controllable with even the most stout load.

Yes I would recommend it unless you have large bear paws for hands then it might be a little hard for you to grip.

Re: Baby Glocks

I sold my G30 and totally regret it, my G21 was an OK shooter, but my G30 was a hammer, as for concealed carry its about the same size as a G19/23, just wider, I'm a 6'4 fatty and I had no issues with printing in a IWB holster, or just in my RH front pocket, I have never shot a 10mm in my life so I can't comment on the G29.

Re: Baby Glocks

I have a Glock 30 that I carried for years when I had a CCW permit. Definitely recommend it...feels good in my hand, I can shoot it accurately and I never had any issues with control for follow up shots with 230 gr Federal Hydra Shoks.
I had an opportunity to shoot a friend's Glock 29 a few years back. It was a bit more than I'd care to shoot extensively, but I only put about 50 rounds through it. With a bit of practice with it, I'm pretty sure I could shoot it as well as my 30.
Frankly, I don't think you could go wrong with either, but 45s are easier to find than 10mms

Re: Baby Glocks

My Glock 30 runs like a sewing machine. 11 rounds of .45 in a compact package. you just can't go wrong.

Re: Baby Glocks

My G30 is a tack driver. Possibly the most accurate out of the box/fastest to master handgun I've ever owned. Definitely recommend it. If you have large hands you'll probably want the magazine extension on your mags.

Re: Baby Glocks

I had a G30 and it was a good gun, but still big. I don't refer to the G30 as a baby Glock, b/c it is about the size of the G19 but thicker. The "baby Glocks" are the G26/27.

I caryy a G26 or G19 now as they are thinner.

Re: Baby Glocks

Seconds on the 36 it is my go to carry pistol...The barrel length is a tad longer grip length is about the same but the magazine has long floor plate that gives a good purchase...Only good for 7 rds but I always say if I need more than 7 rds of .45 to get it done it is time to negotiate..

Re: Baby Glocks

My favorite pistol is the G19. I like the compact size. The sub-compacts don't fit my hand. 16rds of Golden Sabre is pretty potent stuff. I don't personally care for the G36's either, had rather have the xtra rds the G19 gives.

Re: Baby Glocks

My good friend has a g29 and that thing is a hammer. I have small hands but controlling that gun was just as easy as my 19. I ran 4 or 5 mags through it and just wore out the X ring from 10 yards. I think it might be the easiest high power pistol to operate out there.

Re: Baby Glocks

A friend of mine has a Glock 30... Aside from my 26, it's probably my favorite Glock.

Re: Baby Glocks

I have a Glock 27 and like it ok. In my opinion, I think you can conceal a 19 or 23 just as easy and have a much easier to shoot platform. These days I carry a Kharr CM9, which is way more comfortable to me.

Re: Baby Glocks

I have heard of some guys cutting down the grips on their G 19's to hold the mags of the 26 with the plus 2 extenders. Smaller grip longer sight radius.
I am happy with the 26 with an extender and that is my go to gun for CCW.

Re: Baby Glocks

Main reason I only considered the G29 and G30 is,the danger comes more from the 4 legged critters as much,if not more so,than the 2 legged ones......

Figured it would be nice to at least have a fighting chance if a pissed off moose decides to attack my dog for no reason(it's happened before,my dog moved faster than that Cow Moose
grin.gif
),or,some rouge Bear decides it doesn't like me while I'm on the side of the road somewhere,or working on my boat on the property(My neighborhood was the problem bear hotspot for AK in 2011)
eek.gif
.......leaning more towards the G29 for these reasons.....

Thanks to everyone for the input.......

I don't understand this.. how long of a sight radius you need on a ccw pistol? My G26 shoots just as small of groups as my G19 or G1
7. I can draw the G19 a tad faster than the G26 so I would see more of a benefit of a G26 upper on a G19 frame.

Re: Baby Glocks

Greetings Sandrat,

I carry a G30 daily in my plain-clothes everyday carry. I carry a G21 when I hit the streets in uniform. Off-duty I'll carry a G36 or 1911 Commander. Just trying to paint the picture of how much I use/carry these pistols.

I've been happy with all of them. If for CCW, I may be more inclined towards the G36. MUCH thinnner, lighter, still holds 6+1. For your primary "threat" being 4-legged, I'd hope that'd be enough firepower?? But, if you wanted 10mm, then obviously the G29 is your choice.

The G30 doesn't really recoil that much honestly. Good grip/stance and it's fine. A good friend of mine has G29 and he loves it. I've fired it a good number of times and 10mm is a fun round to shoot. Typical Glock, it's been ultra reliable with no issues. I believe he hasn't done any preventative maintenance to it(other than field-strip cleaning) for 15k rounds fired.

If you have 10mm ammo easily available, then that may be your thing. If the ammo isn't readily available, I'd lean towards a G30.

While I do enjoy my G36, I sometimes do wish it were a tad wider on the "side panel" areas to fill in the grip. I do not like the Hogue slip-ons, so I just deal with it.

Best of luck on your shopping!

Re: Baby Glocks

I had a G36 when they first came out for off duty carry and it was nothing but a nightmare, continuos FTF/FTE issues. I was told this was a problem with them and got rid of it. Have they improved on them?

Re: Baby Glocks

I had a g30 and sold it and have regretted it since. It shot very good and was very controllable that being said my stepdad has the 10mm and its an ok gun not to bad on recoil but my pick is still the .45.

Re: Baby Glocks

18Echo,

My G36 has been 99% flawless. The 1% is an occasional magazine issue(not created by me for malfunction reactions) where the front of the magazine catches the top round, thus failing to feed into chamber until I re-rack the slide. Typically on a fresh magazine insert. Not in the midst of a string of fire.

I do forget I'm carrying that G36 when I do carry it. The G30 I do notice, especially when IWB. If it's OWB, it's not so noticeable to me.

Either choice is good-to-go in my opinion!

Have fun!

Re: Baby Glocks

I have to agree it depends on if you are carrying iwb, I wish i could get used to this but i never have been able to so i always carry owb but the G30 would be really thick iwb. Good point glock45

Re: Baby Glocks

Love the G26/27. Was hitting bowling pins consistently at 20 yards last weekend with a Gen3 G27.

Re: Baby Glocks

Im partial to Glock. I carry either. Gen 3 FDE 23, or Gen 4 19

Re: Baby Glocks

The 30 is my favorite Glock. Compact, stout pitbull-like stature, and smooth easy shooting. It's like a 1959 Cadillac that almost drives itself.

The 29 is obviously the same form factor, and not at all unpleasant to shoot, though certainly a bit abrupt with a lot more boom.

If you don't mind paying the 10mm fare, which is more costly than 45, I'd highly recommend it.

Re: Baby Glocks

I carry either a G27 or G29 in VM2 holsters. I like the G27 for it being lighter sometimes, better with lighter clothing, but the G29 hides very well too. I tend to wear it more with long pants and jackets, thought that isn't necessary I suppose.

As for controllability, I've heard a little 16yo girl and also my wife who is recoil sensitive, both say the G29 with fairly stiff 180 or 200gr. loads is preferable to the G27 with stiff 155's, or worse, 135gr. Corbon loads. The G29's recoil is a "shove" with heavy bullets, whereas the G27 is more "snappy". I'd say from strictly a controllability viewpoint, the G29 with heavier loads, say 180 Gold Dots? Loaded to about 1150fps from a G29, that gives good results all around.

The G29 being wider to grip helps, but you'll definitely want those pinkie extensions for the small capacity carry mag. It doesn't add much length and no capacity, but adds a LOT of support when firing. I use plain G20 or G22 mags for spares, which sounds like what you want to do.

I have a G21, but don't own a G30. I just sort of stopped when I found 10mm, such a fun cartridge to shoot --if you load. Either one would be a fine carry rig, but I'd only go with the G29 if you plan on loading for it. 10mm is costly stuff if you don't load.
