Finally got my new pistol via transfer yesterday. These are just now starting to trickle on to the market and I was able to snag one of the 1st ones available.

FNX-45 Tactical w/ Trijicon Dual Illuminated RMR

Re: New Pistol!

Thats nice I've been looking at them in magazines for a while now glad to see they finally started shipping some.

I called a local shop last week and he said that they hadn't yet received one, so I went to gunbroker and found one. I thought I had probably paid too much, though I didn't mind all that much (supply and demand and all that).

Then when I went to complete the transfer, he saw my receipt and claimed that I got one heck of a deal. He received one and sold it within an hour of it being off the truck. For over $200 more than what I had just paid for mine.

I'm going to the range either tomorrow or Tuesday and I'll send a range report along.

So far: the eleventy backstraps made it easy to find one that will fit my woman-sized hands (45 ACP in a double stack magazine calls for a huge grip). The RMR sight makes acquisition a much faster affair. It seems that the key is to keep both eyes open and always look at the target, then wait for the dot to come on to the target with natural point of aim. Installation of the RMR was easy and included a mount for Trijicon and Docter red dots. Take down and reassembly is cake. The balance is great. Trigger pull on the DA isn't terrible; on the SA it's great.

Yours is likely the FNP-45 Tactical, not the FNX-45 Tactical. Those holsters are.

Apparently, the FNP-45 Tactical was built specifically for SOCOM pistol trials around one specific type of ammo.

After the trials were cancelled, FNH decided to release the pistol on the mass market where it was discovered that some 45 ACP ammo is manufactured to a longer spec than the original military ammo the gun was designed around. Not out of spec, mind you, just longer than the gun was designed to reliably cycle. Most ammo cycled perfectly as it should; some didn't, especially hand loads from competitors.

The FNX is what they have come up with after making the necessary adjustments to the chamber and magazines (I think it has a different barrel too) in order to fully accommodate any 45 ACP ammo that is within spec.

Re: New Pistol!

Just be careful of gunshow relaods. A friend of mine had his FNX Tactical about a month when a gun show .45 reload destroyed it. The frame was cracked down the mag well, on each side. The mag fired strait down out of the mag well hard enough that it bounced.

Obviously it had nothing to do with the gun, who knows how that round was charged or loaded. tough break for him, FN didn't want anything to do with him.

Re: New Pistol!

Shot her at the range today. She's definitely a keeper.

My thumb placement on my trigger hand is a bit tricky right now. I need to find a more comfortable spot than the safety/decocker. At some point I'm bound to decock the pistol mid magazine and put me back in DA territory rather than SA. No good.

The holo sight works great (it took a smidge of adjustment to get right), as does using the irons in co-witness.

Recoil isn't bad on a shot to shot basis, but my shooting hand hurt pretty good after blasting through about 100 rounds in 10 or so minutes.
