Rifle Scopes 1-4 MTAC Question

Does the illumination have to be used or is the reticle daylight visible without turning it on?

I have the Tac30, which I bought before the Mtac was widely available. In the Tac30, the reticle is black with no illum, and is very visible.

Yes the reticle is black when the illumination is not in use.

I have the 1.5-6x MTAC and 1-4x TAC30. For both, the reticle is big and opaque and hard to miss with the illumination off. In fact it's so heavy it's not ideal for more accurate shooting. Of course both models are intended for shorter range carbine and 3-gun type use.
