I really really really want to get out and decimate some groundhogs. Anybody from around pittsburgh have access to shooting areas? I may have 2. One in burgettstown, and one near Kittaning

Re: Pittsburgh PA

Im south of the burg about 30 min. Pm me and well get in touch. have a farm and some other local places to get out and shoot.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

I just moved from Pittsburgh to Columbus, you guys should try Thunder Valley Precision in OH, Tom has shoots every weekend and they are a blast. You will learn a lot every time you go out.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

guys, just wandering if anyone wants to hook up for a local shoot. I just picked up some ar-500 steel squares here on the hide. Going to makes some hangers and set em out localy. let me know if you want to shoot. send a pm if interested

Re: Pittsburgh PA

Im bringing this post back from the dead. We need to plan a shoot sometime in the spring.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

what kind of shoot? Steel? Or groundhogs? My club has matches almost every weekend, benchrest and groundhog shoots. But It would be more fun to actually hunt some furry critters

Re: Pittsburgh PA

Talk about ressurection...this is an old one, but nonetheless, I'm game to get out and shoot a bit....got a 12" ar500 plate mounted up on a new stand last month and hardly got to hammer it before the weather killed my shooting spot.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

I am 30 minutes west of Pittsburgh in Ohio. It takes me 1 1/2 hours to get to TVP. I'll second that his range is great and you will learn a ton from some great guys.

n40.17725 w81.717349 here is where TVP is located in Kimoblton Ohio. If you plan for a day, it would be well worth the drive time.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

We have been competing at Rayners Range for the past 3 1/2 years and our first LR steel plate match will be Feb 23-24. Here is a link to the schedule for the rest of the season.

http://www.raynersrange.com/schedule/schedule.html

Also will be having their Spring Sniper Challenge April 6-7 and preregistration is advised.

We go down a few times each month to tweak settings. Usually the LR steel plate matches average between 65-80 entries. Distances are between 234 and 1000 yards with varying size targets with a point value based on target size. Three shots at each target distance with twelve different distances. You can use your three shots at larger less value targets or gamble on smaller higher value targets or mix and match. Wanna be at the top of the win list you better be able to hit a lot of the small ones. If you're just starting out or learning then the larger targets might be the way to go. Maximum possible score can be 645, highest score shot so far is 390 so that shows how challenging the matches are.

Three classes, Scoped Rifles, Metallic Sight Rifles and Handguns so nearly ever interest is covered.

Tom allows shooters to use his range for $10.00 per shooter for the day for practice. Maybe see more of you there this summer, will have a few new rigs to work with and tweak so we'll be there quite often now that better weather is here.

Here is an older video clip that shows his targets but at least one and it's distance has been changed and other stations have had some smaller higher value targets added for more challenges.

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwE70ihOYIk"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwE70ihOYIk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

Benches at each location and also room to shoot prone at each location so the match moves along quite well. It's not a BR or all out tactical match but more along the lines of a precision long range match that a shooter can gamble on his and his equipments ability to hit various size targets at varying distances to get the best score possible.

Hope to see some of you there this summer.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

what would be awesome if we can do a suppressor test. everyone "run watcha brung" so we can all hear the difference and see the accuracy in cans.

soooooo, who has a farm?

Re: Pittsburgh PA

No farm here, however I've got an Gemtech MK-9K that's a lot of fun. I'm south of Pgh.

Re: Pittsburgh PA

I can see that my 15" barrel with only a brake won't be invited to the suppressor get together.
