Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

Pros:
Pretty good out of box accuracy
Inexpensive
Easily upgraded

Cons:
Crappy stock
So-so trigger (some are okay, some not)
1 in 12 20" barrel might be a limitation considering what you want to do with it.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

i like mine. you didnt say 223 or 308. My 223 has a 1 in 9 and my 308 has a 1 in 10. both 20 inch barrels.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

If you're asking then you're newer to this, and as such it'll do everything you need it to do.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

Get one. You'll upgrade the stock soon enough, but there are a lot of options used on here.

I put mine in a HS stock that is a LTR takeoff. If it doens't shoot well, it's likely me that messed up.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

After doing alot of research on this model I will probably go with the Remington package that Mel at Sniper Central is offering, better stock(Bell and Carlson),barrels leights from 20' to 26',just alittle more options.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

Not knocking that sites package deal, but you can do the same thing with a reputable smith in your area, or by yourself

Remington ADL varmint in 308 26" 1:12 approx $400
B&C M40 stock, or HS precision take off from the hide $175-230
Same Bushy glass from midway $199
Harris with podlock from Triad Tactical $110
Gunsmith to cut and crown you any length approx $80
rings and base Warne maxima $75

Sub total $1094
Add timney trigger $125
$1219 keep at 26" $1139

Sniper Central base price $1280 +55 ship + $35 FFL transfer = $1370

Jethro you should save that response quick exact and to the point. I agree 100% I just picked up another SPS rifle the other day for the action. I have had a few of these but I was actually amazed with the factory trigger, the first two I had where no where near the trigger this one had on it.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

The price I come up with including shipping comes out to $980 total. The scope, rings and mounts and Harris bi-pod I already have.(From Sniper Central)

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

I've heard of people shooting out to 700 yards with even the 20" barrel. The FPS difference is 50 FPS I believe.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

Look at what scc has under to px. Looks like a great deal for starting place.

Just got done shooting at 720 yards with my AAC model in a HS stock.
Shot less than MOA with the 175 gr SMK.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

I never did anything to mine except put a good solid 20 moa rail on with good optics. It will shoot a Berger 168 vld 1/2 moa all day long. But I only use it for hunting so really no need to upgrade. If your going long range, new stock, maybe bedded, .... Trigger....rail.... Ect..... Mine eats up the fgm175 smk when I'm playing around shooting. Recoil isn't bad either.

How about 1000y with both the 223 and 308 versions.

Read more about it here:

308

Depending on what you are comparing, my 308 tactical compared to my Varmint (26” factory barrel) with the same load fired in both (155 scenars as well as 175 smk for this test) the Varmint gave 100fps more in both cases. My Rock Creek barreled action is 21.75” and is with in 5 or 10 fps faster than the varmint, again same two loads but with a premium hand lapped replacement barrel. I have yet to test my winchester 70 stealth 26" but I suspect it will be faster than my varmint.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Tactical Rifle New opinions

I have one, changed to a B&C A5 atock, timmney trigger and vortex it shoots handloads sub moa no problem
