Short of putting the case in my rifle and pulling the trigger, is there a safe way to remove an unfired primer from a case?

Just like you would a fired primer, decapper + eye protection

Great advise I have done it that way for years never had a problem but the eye protection is a smart precation and I always wear it.

Rare quality these days!

Re: Remove unfired primer from case?

I have deprimed quite a few live primers. Never had one go off. Go slow and should not be a problem. Eye pro as always.

Re: Remove unfired primer from case?

Just put a drop of oil on it and then deprime it. Safest way I've found.

Re: Remove unfired primer from case?

Modern primers are quite resistant to damage from oils. That doesn't much matter, it's perfectly safe to decap live primers normally. But it's a very good idea not to let a pile of live ones accumulate in a primer catcher tray.

Re: Remove unfired primer from case?

I have also depimmed a lot of live primers without a single problem.

And like Rick Burgess of the "Rick and Bubba" radio show says, "Common sense has become a superpower."
