I have a Leupold Mark AR 6-18 x40 and swfa has offered to trade me straight across for a new 10x42 super sniper. my reason for wanting to trade is because the Leupold is mil/moa and the SS is mil/mil. i also prefer the turrets on the SS better.

does this sound like a reasonable trade or am i getting hosed?

Which super sniper? Side focus or no?

Re: SWFA trade program... is this a good trade?

Your Leupold Mark AR 6-18 x40 new lists at 549 and the fixed 10x SWFA SS lists at 299 for the cheaper of the two andthe side PA is 100 more.

If you think you can get more than 299 out of it or 399 depending on which were looking at... you be the judge.

Re: SWFA trade program... is this a good trade?

A used Leupold gets you a new SS...what's not to like about that deal?!?!

Seriously...without any idea as to the condition of your Leupy, whether you are parting with rings/mounts as well, accessories, etc., etc., or which specific 10x SS you are talking about (SF vs. RF)...who the hell knows if it is fair or not. I've seen the Mark AR scopes in the configuration mentioned brand new for ~$425 (depending on reticle) and the SS 10x scopes start at $299 for rear and move up to $399 for side-focus models.

Only YOU can decide if it is worth it to YOU to do the trade or not.

Oh...P.S. - as for getting "hosed," that's what happened when you bought the Mark AR!

OMG, I'm seriously laughing my ass off, people in the office are gonna start wondering.... Yes, I agree, the Leupy was a "newbie" mistake... It is in excellent condition as I've still got the box and paperwork and only taken it to the range twice... I would consider it to be "like new" condition...
As to the price difference, yes I probably could get more, but when I weigh the time I'd be sitting on it, it doesn't make sense.

I may just shell out the extra $100 and get the side focus

Re: SWFA trade program... is this a good trade?

I honestly recommend the rear focus. It takes a little getting used to, but most report that image is brighter than the side focus model.

Re: SWFA trade program... is this a good trade?

I made the same newb mistake and have that same mark ar sitting around. Check ebay, what is it going for? If its more than the ss, sell it and pocket the difference.

Simple.

Just think about a rip off, used car dealers offer and there is your answer.

Re: SWFA trade program... is this a good trade?

Of course they are making money on the deal they offered you, they are in business to make money.

If it were a car trade-in, you would only pay tax on the difference between the trade-in value and the purchase price. On a car purchase that can save the buyer hundreds or thousands of dollars. In your case it's more like $20, but it still factors in.

If it's an even swap, you shouldn't have to pay any sales tax.
