.260 reload data

Re: .260 reload data

Any 139-142gr bullet and 42-44gr H4350...accuracy nodes are often found 0.5gr apart.

Add 1 grain for 130gr Berger/Norma/JLK.

Reloader 17 will give you roughly 100fps more velocity at a given charge weight than H4350, but it is more temp sensitive.

Re: .260 reload data

Just got through putting together a 260 Rem. The first loads through it I used 142gr SMK's with H4350.

Shots 2-10 through the new barrel.

Shot #11 through the barrel.

I then tried the Berger 140gr hunting VLD using 44.0grs H4831and got decent results and I quit load developement for now.

Confirmation load, 3 shot group into .3 and 5 shot below went into .6

I put this rifle together on a Sunday afternoon and found a good shooting load for it the folowing day with less than 25 rounds through the barrel and I feel I got lucky on this one. Really dont feel the need to persue any more as I am just a casual steel shooter.

Here's a video of my daughter shoot it at 370 yards at steel, she certainly did ok with the Barnes 140gr VLD

Re: .260 reload data

RL17,...works well in the small calibres. Plenty info and loads for this powder.

Re: .260 reload data

H4350 is great and H4831sc works well but depending on your chamber specs and bullet used you may run into compression issues.

Re: .260 reload data

Doesn't anyone run IMR 4350? I have a cpl lbs of this, and am having Jon at Beanland Rifles build my 260, but I wanna shoot 123's and 140 Amax to be my heavy bullet.

Re: .260 reload data

I find N160 runs very close to H4350 and have loads for both and I tend to stick with the 140 SMK's as that's what my barrel likes best. Ive also had excellent results with both Remington and Lapua brass.

IMR4350 is a sigle based powder meaning it is more sensitive to temp changes...H4350 is a double based powder making it more stable through weather changes. Most like to run the Hodgdon double base powders these days for the consistency it offers over IMR in different conditions we shoot in.

I am sure someone on here still shoots IMR though and could probably offer you some load data.

Re: .260 reload data

I'm shooting 40.5gr IMR4064 with SMK 123's. sub 1/2" 5 shot groups at 2981fps. I could never get the velocitys with H4350 like some people posted? Thought it might have been the bbl,but changed it out and results from 2nd bbl were basically identical.

I use H4350.

My main target is 6" swinger at 700 yards. Last outing was 7 in a row. I had a wind call miss so I then turned the rifle over to one of my shooting buddies. With 3 rounds left in the box, he hit all 3.

140 A-Max
42.5gns H4350
Neck turned Nosler brass
2743fps
SD=6 for 5 shots

or

140 A-Max
43.5gns H4350
Neck turned Lapua .243 brass
2885fps
SD=8 for 5 shots

I am right at your speeds...

out of a 25inch barrel using Lapua brass and 44grns H4350 I am at 2890FPS with the 142SMks

I tried IMR-4350 with 120 gr A-max and it worked very well. I had better accuracy with that combo than I did with H-4350 with the same bullet. I haven't tried IMR with the heavier bullets since I was getting really excellent results with H-4350 on the heavies.

I don't have the data handy right now, but if you want specifics let me know and I will post them later.
