Okay, so did I completely miss the boat?

I've been shooting bolt actions less than a year and never got into reloading.

I always bought ammo (.308) on my way to the range or wherever.

Now, with current events and "hysteria" in full swing, every retailer, online and local, is out of stock.

Are the manufacturers not producing? Shipping? Retailers hoarding?

Anyone know?

Re: Ammunition?

People are hoarding, shop by me has now restricted sales to 1 box of a particular caliber per person. Even reload supplies are running short at this point.

Re: Ammunition?

Yeah its all hoarding. I saw a guy at a sporting goods store yesterday sprint to the ammo aisle and grab 10 boxes (all they had) of .45 fmj...

Re: Ammunition?

Although I will say I see full stock of the traditional hunting calibers everywhere, so makes me wish I had a 22-250 or a .243 instead of a .223

Re: Ammunition?

Yep, as far as rifle calibers go everyone is hoarding the tacticool calibers. There is no 5.56/.223, 7.62/.308 or oddly enough .22lr to be found around here. All of the "Fudd" hunting calibers are still full stock.

Yeah that about sums it up, I went around Monday looking for any .308 and was not really impressed by what I found. I managed to find some 150 FMJ and two boxes of Hornady 155 TAP FPD but not wanting to be the ass that bought both boxes I left one for the next guy. At this point I guess all one can say is good luck.

Re: Ammunition?

I've managed to find two boxes of Remington core-lokts in the past three weeks. We're talking core-lokts here, not even close to match grade. It's a zoo to say the least. I'll be running with ammo from the sponsors here from now on.

Re: Ammunition?

Iowa is the same thing. Bass Pro, Scheels, and Walmart are completely sold out of the popular cartridges. Sportsman's Warehouse is also running short and has implemented a purchase limit on primers and ammo. Brass is nonexistent unless you shoot a 204. I luckily had a couple boxes of FGMM or else I would not be participating in this year's high power antlerless season.

Re: Ammunition?

I am shocked about the desert of reloading supplies. Everyone is out, everywhere.... no powder or cap to be had.

I usually keep a 6 month to a year supply, but it was my normal time of the year to restock when the panic hit, now I am critically low.... too low to do much shooting at the moment.

Re: Ammunition?

.223Re/5.56x45 forget about it, but 308Win while not as plentiful on the shelves as normal there's been a bit around here, to include FGMM.

Strangely the gunshows have had fairly large amounts of both, atleast two weekends ago and hadn't taken to marking .308 way up.

The run on reloading supplies shocked me, .223 brass and bullets over 40gr, gone. .30 cal bullets gone, 9mm and 45 brass and bullets scarce, 9mm die sets sold out most places, I imagine other calibers and equip but didn't look. Powder and primers, well you sure can't just have one in mind, or want bulk powder. I can't fathom the money that's been spent.

Re: Ammunition?

Let this be a lesson to all. I learned it a few years back when you couldn't buy a single box of primers of any kind. I put 15000 primers on order from anyone taking back orders. Always kept a min max on bullets and powder, while slowly building a healthy inventory of brass. If people wouldn't panic, this wouldn't happen. Being prepared is key to winning any fight. Sure, I could have spent all that money on wine and dinning. God knows I love it as much as anyone else.

Nothing you can do now but ride out the storm like I did last time. I would however put all you can afford on backorder, and wait for it to trickle in. BTW, just because the current leadership said they are going to ban everything gun related, DOESN'T mean it's going to happen overnight. Congress still has to come together and agree on it. I don't think they have the majority at this time.

Re: Ammunition?

Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance !! Ever here that ?? Ever since the scare back when Klinton tried to put tagents in powder ... I saw the writing on the wall. Right now I could probably sell , well that won't happen... May need it !! take this as a LESSON LEARNED !!

Re: Ammunition?

There is a very rational argument for having a few rifles in odd-ball calibers. This was covered in "299 days" although I'm sure its a concept that has been around for a long time. 17HMR, 22-250, 5.45x39 etc...

Re: Ammunition?

Well I keep 5 k rounds for each main gun on hand(223/308), many hundreds of 06/300WSM, keep big old metal 2o mm cans. With enough components and powder to make an equal amount that I keep in fire proof storage cabinets. I bought it when cheap and cycle through as I do range time replacing old with new. I guess I have about $5 k spent, now worth a new car. Supply will catch up in a few months to a year.

Well you do state your from slo-maha!

JK, actually, just look at this as a leason learned.

You might want to check components locally. This may be the ideal time to get into reloading.

Good luck!

Re: Ammunition?

Yeah, lesson learned.

Reloading is definitely my next step... Whenever those components become available again. In the mean time I will "read" about reloading.

I guess the thing that bugs me is that nothing new is coming to the stores.

In a country almost dependent on logistics, where is it? Are the manufacturers not producing? Not shipping? Did those damn bureaucrats put a lock on the gate?

Bummer that my boom stick is just about the way I want it, and I only got 50 rounds to shoot.

Thanks guys

Re: Ammunition?

This is why you should not only stock up on ammo & guns, but have a healthy supply(6 months minimum) of water, food, toiletries, first aid, silver/gold, etc., on hand as well.

Once a panic/weather emergency/dollar crash/blue hat invasion hits, all stores will be empty in 2 hours or less. Everything is J.I.T.(Just In Time) Delivery these days, meaning stores have slim backstock on hand because of costs.

Re: Ammunition?

I do feel your pain, believe me. The manufacturers are all set up to make what they sell on a constant progressive rate. When everyone who owns a firearm decides to buy at the same time way more than they need, we'll the bottom falls out. Just like every year when we get a hurricane threat in South Florida. Every Publix, and Home Depot sells everything on the self in three days. Can't even get a f**king loaf of bread for the kids. Again, it boils down to education, and preparedness. If everyone knew how propositions became laws, this kind of shit would never happen. If everyone would be a little better prepared, they would never get caught with their pants down around their ankles. Basic economics... You know, that stuff they tried to teach you and me in junior high.

All I can say for now is that you will have to wait a little bit for that stuff to come around. This president isn't going to make gun stuff disappear overnight. I'm not greedy, and may be able to help you a little. PM me with what caliber your rifle is chambered in, and if I have enough for us both, then I'll sell you some at what it cost me. BTW I don't overpay for anything.
