Sidearms & Scatterguns ruger sr9 compact

Re: ruger sr9 compact

I don't have time to do a full review right now, but I'll post one on tuesday.

I have fired it and I do like the gun a lot. Good balance, and easy to fire fast.
Sights, are typical ruger and could do with replacing. Really nice trigger, very comfortable. Very reliable as well. Good features and tight lockup. I like it more than the S&W M&P compact.

Ill get some more up soon but it really is a winner. Miles ahead of the old P85 and the one that came after that. I would still take a glock over it but I would take the SR9 over the Springfield, or M&P, which says a lot.

Re: ruger sr9 compact

Care to elaborate on why you would take the sr9c over a m&p9c?

I have shot both sr40c and m&p40c and I liked the m&p much better, but thats just me. I think all of the ruger SR series triggers are better out of the box than m&p or glock but they are heavy, and ruger has no aftermarket support. While i think the SR triggers are crisper I think they are heavier than I would consider acceptable for me. There is a chart floating around the internet that compares all popular striker triggers and it backs up my impressions. The m&p definitely has a squishier trigger than glock, xd, or especially the ruger. But with apex parts the trigger can be around 3.5-4lbs and the squishiness turns into a soft "roll". Ive just gotten used to the "roll".

Re: ruger sr9 compact

I have the LC9, SR40c and a Shield in .40. The LC9 is just large enough to rule out pocket carry and even with the 9mm round it is rather snappy.

The SR40c feels better, handles better and even the .40 round even as bad as the LC9 to me. I did upgrade recoil springs and it is in getting a Ghost Trigger bar and some other plastic parts replaced with SS.....Said to make a huge difference on the trigger pull and reset.

the SR40c has had no FTF/FTE in close to 200 rounds of a wide variety of ammo.

Accuracy is as good as it can get for a small compact gun at 25-50 yards and I even hit the target 3 out of 10 rounds at 110 yards.....Note man size silhouette, I need more practice with the DA only trigger pull.

Ruger's finish on the black slide of both the LC9 and the SR40c is lacking for durablity, wearing off rather quickly. I would opt the the SS slide if I were to get another one.

The double stack frame width while comfortable makes it a little large for me to conceal but makes for a great hip gun on the ATV in the mountains.

I also have a Shield in .40 and while the Shield is slightly smaller, single stack is quite a nice pistol. out of the 1st mag I did have one FTF not going completely into battery and 3 mags later one stove pipe....I think the cold and limp wristing caused these along with needing a few more rounds through it.

The SR9c should be very comparable to the SR40c other than caliber.

Re: ruger sr9 compact

I had a SR9 not a c. It had the worst trigger I have ever encountered on a striker fired handgun. Gritty, stoppy, opposite of smooth. I shot it a couple hundred times and decided it wasn't for me and traded it. I have heard the c model is smoother but cannot attest to that. Mine was a 2012 gun also so had the trigger "improvement" or whatever Ruger called it. Bought a Glock changed the connecter and never looked back.

Thanks for the replies, ended up buying the gun and I am very happy with it, The factory trigger feels like its from a gun costing much more than the price point the little ruger comes in at.
