I'm about to switch from my Berger 175gr BT LRs to the 178gr BTHPs to save some money. I was thinking of using the same load (44gr varget, fed 210m, 2.810 COL) just wanted to see what others were getting though.

Re: Hornady 178gr BTHP loads, what's everyone running?

I'm running 43.1 of Varget. I find it matches the velocity of FGMM. I'm running about 2530 fps in a DPMS LR308 with a 18" barrel.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Jared

I am running 44grns in Hornady cases with 210 primers at .020" off lands.

What are the specs on the gun you are shooting and velocity you are getting?

Nice going to try a couple loads of varget then.

44 grns Varget, Hornady case, WLR primer, .010 off lands in 24" Obermeyer 1-11 gets right at 2700 fps.

24" 11 twist barrel was giving me 2730fps and when I had it shortened and added a brake for my can it went to 22" and 2710fps.

Thanks, is that a compressed load?

    Nope.

Re: Hornady 178gr BTHP loads, what's everyone running?

22" bartlein (Crusader) 47.9 power pro 2000 mr. Fgm210m, lapua brass. 20/1000 off lands. 2730 fps and a tack driver

Re: Hornady 178gr BTHP loads, what's everyone running?

Are these sensitive to seating depth like VLDs? Since i'm shooting my factory 5R mine will be jumping. Less AICS mags allow me to seat them out, i'd likely have to load to single feed to get close to the lands.

No, no where near as picky as VLD's. I was getting 2570 in my 17.5" short barrel from 43.8 Varget loaded at 2.82. I would stick with mag length loads though, seems to be where they give the best results.

My buddy runs 44 Varget in his gas gun. It's a little hard on brass but is a freakin tack driver and getting great velocity. 44 grains in a bolt gun should be great, seems to be the go to load.

I use 178 BTHPs, 44gr Varget, CCI BR2 primers, 0.003" neck tension and 0.010" off the lands. ~ 2700-2710 FPS with a 24" 1/10 Krieger MTU with Badger FTE.

Re: Hornady 178gr BTHP loads, what's everyone running?

Shooting groups now. Shot what I had left of my 168gr hybrids jerking left and right. I suppose that's what I get for not shooting on a regular basis. Loaded 5rds each of the hornady 178s over 44-45.5gr of varget, 210m and COL at 2.865. After 15rds of the 168s I managed to calm down everything is looking great. 45 seems to be it right now which id be happy with. Meant to chrono but forgot it. Going post picks when I'm done. So far really liking these.

I run 47.5grs 2000MR with that bullet, Win brass, CCIBR primers.

Very nice what's your velocity with 47.5 of MR2000?

Here are the results 45 and 45.5 where the best especially 45.5 which IIRC is around max load for varget for 175 weight class.
