I'm going to start putting together the components for a build and have some questions - need opinions:

Surgeon 591 Action (I read somebody's build specs that they had a small firing pin hole specified. I don't see options on Surgeon's site. Are there other options? Order direct or do vendors have them?) Also considering a Stiller Tac 30

Kreiger 1-8.5" 5R MTU Contour 6.5 Barrel (thread for later can? Also considering a Surefire break. 26" too long?)

6.5x47 Lapua throated for 139 Scenars

Manners T4 90% Carbon Fiber w/3 flush cups and Atlas rail (adjustable ads quite a bit of weight. Worth it?)

Surgeon Bottom Metal

Vortex Razor HD 5-20

Vortex Razor Rings

Jewell HVR Trigger w/top safety

Atlas Bipod (which model?)

Send to Mr. Gradous to put it all together.

Will mainly be a paper puncher for small F-Class matches and informal steel at distance. Possibly hunt caribou with it but not the main purpose. Opinions/other considerations I may have missed?

Re: Build List

The 591 is probably the best out there, but the last I went with is a Tac 30 AW. It's a very nice action with a pinned lug, pinned rail, one piece bolt, and way cheaper. It really has all you need in an action. Oh and it fits 700 inlet stocks, that's a convenience if you don't like the stock you have or something...

May look at a 6.5 Creedmoor or .260 for the larger heavy bullets. I'm sure a lot of guys shoot them, but you'll get quite a bit more speed out of the other two with the big bullets. The 130 Bergers would do well in a x47 probably.

Everything else looks good to me, but this is all just my opinion anyways. I would also go with a lighter weight barrel...

Re: Build List

What contour barrel? Weight is a consideration but so is a long string of consistent fire.

Re: Build List

For the x47 THe 130's are about perfect. Mid 2800 fps neighborhood is easy to run with them.

Re: Build List

Look at a medium Palma or rem varmint. Most guys are going that way. Barrel metal is better than ever and should be fine with consistent rate of fire.

Re: Build List

I would also check out the Bighorn action. One of the best values out there. 130 gr. as stated is perfect for the 6.5X47. Carbon fibre is great for weight reduction, but only with a fixed cheek piece. IMHO. Sounds like a great build. Keep us posted.

Re: Build List

After some research and taking advide from here, I think I've decided finally on my build list:

6.5x47
Defiance Deviant action, .062" firing pin hole, standard tang, deep fluted bolt, resessed bolt nose, tactical knob
Krieger 5R 1-8 Twist 6.5mm Remington Varmint Contour Fluted
26" finished length threaded and capped
Manners T4 90% Carbon Fiber Mini Chasses, 1 stud, three flush cups non rotating, Badger EFR (is there an option for just a side mounted rail rather than the EFR? Use for light mounting for night predator hunting)
Jewell HVR
Vortex Razor 5-20

Was thinking of going lighter weight and exploring some options but decided I already have a custom light weight hunting rig, I want a good solid precision rifle for prone and solid posiiton firing for extended shot strings.
