Looks like Winchester is bringing back the "stealth", but this time with the Pre-64 action.

Stealth link

I've got an earlier model with the push feed action that has always shot well.

Looking forward to seeing what caliber options they will be offering.

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

Yes, looks good ... pre 64 action and a heavy target barrel with a target crown. Winchester is bringing out what a appears to be a good rifle while Remington brings out what appears to be crap (Remington 783). Go figure!

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

I got one in 308 a few years back, it’s great. Hoping this will be available in a 6.5 flavor with the proper twist.

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

hmmm link doesn't work for me. Glad to hear tho, I really like the Stealths.

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

HAD one in 223 it was a P.O.S. rather have a remmy or savage ymmv

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

Hmmm, it looks like they took it off. Wonder what that means?

Re: Winchester Stealth returns in 2013

I saw those and a .22-250, but nothing else. I'm going to guess that this is old stock. Sucks.

bringing this thread back from the dead. Bud's shows these in stock now in .308 flavor. I would be surprised if they are not current production. no info on ROT, but looks like 26" heavy barrel and B&C stock. looks like it will be mucho nose-heavy. I bet it's a shooter, though

I picked up a used (but appeared unused) Stealth on my way back from an out of state hunting trip at a Cabelas in 2010. The stock was a little awkward (big fat forearm and a skinny back end) so I found a used SPR stock and bottom floor plate and added a little devcon love. Now it looks like a SPR with two inches of extra barrel. FWIW, the barrel profile is nearly identical to the FN SPR too.

New paint for the ol black stock.

The two of us have been banging steel together using some reclaimed (pulled) 175 smk's I purchased before the 2013 madness hit. Glad I bought a bunch of them now...

Getting 2710fps out of this 26" Winchester factory barrel with 44.6g of varget and shot a nice 15 shot group at 800y using these pulls just under moa (.25 mil per my reticle)... that is minus 2 fliers. those could have been me as I was getting out of position for each shot or... the bullets, some are less than perfectly round. But they were cheap and the steel didn’t mind. :D

One thing to note, my rifle has a NICE chamber. If you use FGMM your going to be into the lands. My hand loads have a OAL around 2.760ish for about a .015 jump. Fired brass requires minimal sizing just like my custom rifle.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead. I have a new Stealth and don't reload, but I keep seeing people say that because of the shorter chamber that FGMM will be into the lands. Is this a problem? If so, why?

I have a new Stealth too, and have never had a problem with FGMM. It's probably my favorite rifle to shoot.

I have one of the newer Stealth's as well. It shoots FGMM great. It's not the least but finicky about anything I feed it, actually.

Just ordered one from Bud's. Should be able to pick it up over Vets Day Weekend ... sadly, it won't come back to Germany with me for some months.

Anything I should know about these?

I welcome input on my plans for it:
- PTG DBM
- BO base and rings
- SWFA 10x HD scope

Cheers!

I'm interested in the barrel length of these new Stealths. I've seen it variously reported as 26" or 22"

I bought mine used two or three years ago and its 26", Buds states in the ad 22" so the current model must be 22" which would be nice. However, the velocity I am seeing from my 26" barrel doesnt make me sore either... I dont mind sending 175smk's at near 2750fps

I hear ya on the velocity, but I'll be so much more likely to get one of these if its 22".

I would run it old school with hinged floor plate. Unless you absolutely need to have a magazine.

It's not a "pre-64" action. It's a late model action with a controlled feed extractor on the bolt. True "pre-64" actions are those made before 1964 and have a different guard screw spacing than the late model actions.

Dick D ... thanks for the response. Understood that there's a difference between an action truly made before 1964 and the ones that are made "in the style" of those actions. My other Win70s are "post-64 with pre-64 actions" (ie, they have the newer actions with Mauser-style CRF).

Can you confirm that these new Stealths have the Mauser-style CRF and not the CRPF (Controlled-Round Push Feed) of some of the other recent Winchesters?

Shaken,
Mine was built in 2011 and is definitely a pre-64 style CRF.

Thanks, BKennedy! I've been a bit concerned (ordering from Bud's, that is), since they don't have very much information available to provide other than the manufacturer's product number. Your confirmation assuages my biggest concern.

I've already rec'd the tracking number and S/N from Bud's ... can't wait to get to the LGS in a couple of weeks and pick it up! If it comes with the factory-specified 26" barrel, I'll be even happier.

I'm surprised that this thread is still going, since my original post back in January. I know I saw the stealth listed on their website back then.

Sure is weird that these are showing up for sale, brand new, and Winchester's site doesn't show them anymore.

I actually saw a .300 WSM for sale recently. Brand new.

Weird.

I sure like my original Stealth. It's a push feed model, but it sure is accurate!

anybody have one yet? 26" or 22" barrel? inquiring minds

Picked mine up during my visit to CONUS this weekend (sorry, RyeDaddy, no pics yet). Still waiting on the BO mounting hardware and the German paperwork so that I can bring it over.

My initial impressions:
- Very high quality and even finish (seemed almost like IonBon or Melonite, rather than blueing or parkerizing)
- Bolt travel very smooth (much smoother than my New Haven Model 70s)
- B&C stock is nice, but the sporter-style grip is severely lacking for a precision rifle

More to follow.

HI guys new to the sight.I did join the winchest sight but it seems to hard for them to give info about the stealth. But i brought one anyway as it seems every body says that it is the most accurate rifle out of the box they have ever brought.Mine is the 308 as it is the only one you can buy Australia. What sort of groups can i expect at 100 yards.I do reload my self so if you any advice on a good set up they would be great.

Tassie, with mine I was getting groups in the half moa range and sometimes better at 100y. I am shooting 43 or 43.2 grains of varget and I am in the 2630fps range and 44.3 is about 100fps faster. This is with 175 smk's seated about .15-.20 from the lands and IIRC, laupa brass, if not its Winchester. Both loads had good ES/SD numbers. I was using the hotter load for long range steel shooting but decided to find the lower node as most of my shooting around home (away from the range) is under 300 and I dont need to be burning extra powder and putting extra pressure on the system for that.

ShakenNotSturred, what did the barrel length end up being, 22 or 26 inches?

Thanks Niles Coyote asked this queston on a nother sight on answers. 5 mins on this one and a great respons.I am sure that it is a 26 inch barrel havent pick mine up yet but from memory it is 26 with 1:10 twist.

Does this have the same barrel contour/profile as the FN SPR?

I know FN's SPRs are model 70 actions, but I was wondering if the Stealth is essentially the same thing?

Tassie, I have a similar rifle....a Winchester Heavy Varmint synthetic in 308, these came factory with a Wilson SS barrel 1/12.
Mine is a easy 3/4 minute or less out of the box rifle. Best part is it will shoot any ammo it put through it! Including 30 year old mil surplus nato 7.62
Easily the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned or shot.

If its not, it is very close. I took measurements while I still had a SPR and IIRC it was within a few .00X's of being the same at 24" and the chamber area was also just as close.

26"

Can't speak to the contour, but it's a Win/FN Short-Magnum receiver ... so yes, the Stealth is essentially the same rifle as an FN (minus the truing and with a less-nice barrel and less-nice stock).

Hi guys it has been a while but I have finaly got my stealth 308 and all i can say is WHOW .I can only say i got to shoot 15 rounds 10 for barrel brake in and then i shot a 5 shot group at 100 yards all but 1 flyer wich was me was in .4 of an inch. They were factory loads of 180 g cheapest ammo I could get for barrel brake in.The bloke i went with was peed of he has a winchester feather weight in 308 with hand loads and he was only getting .7 .With some more practice and getting to know the rifle devolpe some hand loads it is going to be 1 of the best rifle i will ever own.I think this will stay in my safe for a every long time. They just look the part.
