I am new to this forum and first want to say hi, I have browsed through it quite a bit today (just discovered it) and learned a lot.

I have owned a Savage 10FP for a few years now but never took it out until last week. I got it from a local shop and it came with a Millett DMS Scope and a Harris bipod. Well, I really liked it and was able to zero it in fairly quickly and was shooting nice groups at 100 yards.

Well now I want to upgrade it and I have a question about DBM, I see CDI Precision makes a DBM add on for the 10FP but I also see Seekins Precision makes DBM but it does not look like its rifle specific. I found a post by Greg at Seekins saying he hadn't make them for the Savage Rifles due to demand but that post was old. There are no specs for the Seekins DBM on there site, so my question is does the SP DBM fit on a Savage 10FP?

Here are my planned upgrades, any feedback is appriciated.

Stockade Tactical Gun Stock
- Internal Adjustable cheek
- 3-Way Adjustable Butt Plate
Seekins Precision ATC Muzzle Brake
Seekins Precision Picatinny Scope Base
Seekins Precision Sling Rail System
Detachable Bottom Metal (Seekins or CDI)
Bobro Bi-pod
US Optics SN-3 3.2-17x TPAL
US Optics Rings

SavageGunsmithing Accurizing Package

Thanks,

Mike

just a FYI, for the price of this...

Stockade Tactical Gun Stock
- Internal Adjustable cheek
- 3-Way Adjustable Butt Plate
Detachable Bottom Metal (Seekins or CDI)

you could have a mcree chassis

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

don't forget there are two savage 10fp's
one is a 4.4" action screw spaced with a centerfeed, internal box mag
the other is a 4.27" action screw spaced with a staggered feed internal box mag.

A lot of the companies that advertise for savage 10's are usually making products for the 4.4" model.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

That's what I was thinking too. I really like my McCree!

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

I think I am going to try the McRee, it kills a lot of birds with one stone. Worst thing that could happen is I don't like it and I sell it.

Thanks for the input I wasn't even aware of it.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

McRees is nice. A bit heavy but so are all of the aluminum chassis systems out there

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

The AICS is another great option that is now availble for Savage short action rifles. As was mentioned make sure you know the spacing on your action screws as most of the chassis are set of for a particular spacing. My savage 10FP utilizes a Choate tactical stock and I ordered savage bottom metal from one of their newer rifles. I am limited to the smaller magazine capactiy with their magazines but it still makes for a nice slick rifle at a relative inexpensive cost I think stock bottom metal and all was under $400.

What's the spacing on the current model? Thanks

The new short actions are 4.40" the older ones from about 1998-2006 were 4.27" However beware of the newer actions with the front bolt release mounted near the trigger guard, you will have a dificult time getting aftremarket bottom metal or the AICS to work with it.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

Here's a couple thoughts... and before anyone flames me, know that I own, and LIKE savage...

The planned upgrades are going to cost a decent sum of money

Savage resale is shit

It would be much cheaper to buy a used, upgraded Savage, if that's your fancy

Many of us get rifle "ADD", and as such, there are dozens of fully outfitted awesome rigs for sale, daily, in the classifieds.

You're new to the hobby, maybe consider spending your money on GLASS, ammo, training, or some combination there of.

Stock Savages shoot great

Read a LOT around here before spending your hard earned money on any given products

Most members, if they're relatively nearby, would be glad to meet up with you and let you demo their gear - a WISE thing to take advantage of.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

Thanks Turbo,

I agree, my thinking is I am really only gonna spend about $1000 on the gun itself, things like the US Optics scope, while yes its gonna cost $3000+, it can be rehomed on another rife, same with the BiPod.

I have my eye on a Steyr SSG 08 but before I drop $6000 I want to make sure I enjoy shooting at long ranges, so far I do, but I definitely need to find some training.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

Training is definitely something worth looking at you have accuracy first or magpul that both offer well reputed long range shooting schools I know the magpul class was around 1000 for 5 days of training I beleive.

Re: DBM on Savage 10FP .308

If your action has the Savage factory DBM, a Dark Eagle Custom makes 10 rd mags that fit factory DBM. I have a few and they are very nice.
