I have stopped shooting altogether. With ammo impossible to get I wont shoot up what I have. I will wait till ammo is back down in price and available before I shoot regularly again.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I haven't. This is not the first drought I've been through and it wont be the last.

I was prepared so I don't plan on reducing my shooting one bit.

I refuse to let the bastards win.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

That's the power of .22lr

I don't cringe after every round and sniff around for brass like a pig looking for truffles.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

Well put me down for not prepared then, because I have been holding off on my shooting until some of my ammo orders show up.

Sigh...

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I am down to one 3 gun match a month.

Before 12/14, I regularly ran 2 IPSC and 1 multigun gun match a month.

Like some other guys here, I have "load outs" and emergency anmmo supplies on hand along with "training ammo supply" and "match ammo supply"

I placed the ammo i expect to use for each month of the year for 3 gun matches or IPSC in separate usgi ammo cans, and mark accordingly per month.

I have these labeled out through the end of the year, 11 cans worth.

This way I can clearly look and see what I have left in my training supply and finally base ammo supply which i never go under the base amount.

Each weapon has a "load out" and an emergency base of ammunition.

Primary weapons obviously would have larger load outs and emergency ammo than secondary weapons and sidearms.

Example; .556 carbine has load out of 240 rounds.
This means to me, when I grab my carbine bail out bag, i have (8) 30 round mags loaded ready to go.
--I only load each pmag to 28 rounds--
close enough
.556 emergency ammo may be 1000 rounds, because it is a primary weapon.

sidearm/handgun load out may be (4) 17 round mags =68 rounds with emergency stash at 500 rounds.

anyway, thats what i do.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I have scheduled 5-Two Gun Action matches this year, of which I am the match director. I am a bit trepadatious about giving any predictions as to whether all 5 will be well attended. I plan to try and keep the ammo use inside a box of ammo for each gun.I figure that may increase participation as well.
As for practice, well I didn't practice much before the shitstorm, but I practice even less now. Typically in the past the matches I shoot are most of my practice.I plan to save mypractice ammo for my girls this year. Their lessons will begin as soon as I get over this damn flu and the weather cooperates. Yes believe it or not I have had the Flu and its progeny for 3 weeks now. Getting pretty frustrated. Never beenthis sick this long...but I digress.

I will continue to shoot matches and give lessons as long as Ican continue to freshen the stores with what I consume. If I go through a months ration, and It can't be replaced before a second months ration is gone, I will cease and desist until I get more.

Some people see the glass half full and others see it half empty. I look at the glass and say,"You know that glass is gonna break and spill all that water out." So I am cynical to a fault. Even so, I believe that this will not go on for several months but will level off. That prediction is hinged on the assumption that the government is playing no nefarious role directly, in the ammo market situation. I don't believe they are and Iam a true cynic.

Stay sharp. Make wise and intelligent use of your ammo and components. Practice with purpose.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I stocked up after the panic died down after the first election. I made sure I had enough for matches for the next 2 years. I can always use more but I have the essentials to get me thru. Funny thing was I last bought bullets and powder 2 months ago and had a debate if I really needed to spend the money. Ultimately I decided I better to make sure I would not be caught short. In retrospect I am glad I made the call I did.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I have been in shooting "slumps" before but I will never stop shooting. I am in full swing right now. I am searching ads and I have picked up 4000 rounds (total) of 9mm, 5.56, 6.5 and 22 lr in the last three weeks for non gouge pricing. It can be had if you are patient right now. I am waiting for about 6 weeks because the distributors are backed up on orders but I can gladly wait for non bullshit priced ammo.

Maybe its just me but 17HMR seems to be pretty abundant? It would be cool if you could use a .22lr or .223 to shoot it but of course not.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

If anyone asks, I'm not shooting because of ammo supply issues. But the reality is that spare time is a larger issue, and I see that being more difficult to find in stores than reloading components

I once shot a 9mm Out of a glock 20 10mm.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I've been wondering how this is going to affect shooting schools. You can figure on going through 600 - 800 rounds, and for some instructors, over 1000 rounds. Unless you're reloading like a maniac, this type of ammo consumption can get way expensive.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I been shooting about every weekend. Usually a couple hundred rounds of 45 and a hundred or so rounds of rifle shells.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

The weather here is dictating how much a guy can shoot here. Today will make three days in a row. But to be honest, I'm not sending as many rounds down range, concentrating on hits a little more also.
Not offering the gun to others to shoot as much either!

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I have a class scheduled in february, but other than that I have really slowed down on my ammo consumption. And I have stored a lot of ammo, just playing it safe.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

My shooting has increased. They put an indoor gun range across the street from my work. They always have ammo at alright prices, and hell, it's the best lunch break I've thought of yet.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I'm with the op on this. Until ammo prices come down and availability goes up, I've put my shooting on hold. As a matter of fact, it kinda makes me sick when I think about how many rounds I've wasted just fucking around at the range.

Ditto. Been staying 2-3 years ahead since early '90s.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I have. Combo of a lot of different factors, high prices being a major contributor.

I still shoot with friends on occasion, but it's a lot more rare than it used to be, mostly shooting .22, and matches are close to totally eliminated...

Hopefully when my kids start school, and I can go back to working one job, prices will not be rediculous and I can get back in.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

The only hold I have lately, is 2 mills for wind! never stop shooting!!!

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I went with a 22 upper and my club has a winter league for 3 position. I was lucky enough to stock pile years ago. I saw this coming. Im good with reloading supplies for a long time.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I've slowed down quite a bit, but not because of ammo. I'm revamping my range at my farm. New shooting tower for long range and building a pistol/carbine bay. Those 2 projects have used up most of my free time.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

^ damn...here we have a 500' law

I am planning on a major ammunition purchase around the time we receive our tax refund(She doesn't yet know this, and I am certain there will be words). The boys want to shoot, she wants to shoot, and I always want to shoot. But with the price of ammo always rising and 308 high as f<vk and 5.56 getting there, .45 and 9mm, 7.62x39, 22-250, and 12G, we need to supply each and every rifle and pistol in the house outside of the few boxes of each and the five or so hundred rounds of handloaded match 308 I have(we have been shooting and it's all starting to run out)

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

Have wanted to go to the range a couple times, had the time for it just can't bring myself to break into my ammo supply until I can replace it (some inbound by they say 25 days till I get here).

I have got rabbit hunting twice since the nonsense started, but since I haven't seen a single rabbit either time I've not fired a single shot. Way to save ammo!

Small game hunting here sucks, but at least now the season is closed so I don't have to be tempted for a while.

Re: How many have put shooting on hold?

I hope things settle down soon. I have some load development to do when the weather warms up. For now I just harass the critters.
