I received my new custom Hospitaller last week and thought I'd share, as well as say thanks to guys involved in the build.

We built this one a little differently from the website: chose the Templar action rather than the Surgeon for its tolerances, built it in .260 rather than .308 and added the Badger brake to protect my very broken right clavicle. Ken Lin was very helpful in figuring out the build and Short Bus (Branden) was kind enough to come up with an unusual variant on five color Flektarn for the Manners T4-A which you'll see in the pictures. We wanted to come up with a tac rifle suitable for comps and targets and I think we succeeded pretty well.

It's been raining cats and dogs in the mountains of Northern Arizona where I live so I'm just now getting to sight it in. My first impressions are that its a hammer: it produced a bunch of two round, one hole sighters from bipod and rear bag. Once I get it dialed in and I have some time on the rifle I'll see what it'll do and will update the post.

My thanks to GAP and to Short Bus and Tom Manners for facilitating the stock work in general and to Ken who was willing to spend time planning the build.

Pics, so far: on a ranch near us where I shoot.

Re: New GAP Custom

I've had a chance to play with the rig a bit. Typical GAP accuracy; no news there.

I had the GG&G XPS-2 bipod on it when I took the pictures. Swapped it out for an Atlas because I thought the COG was a bit too high for the rifle. Great improvement, the rifle feels more stable under recoil. I think I'll relegate the GG&G to my .22 trainer.

Now I just need some good weather for shooting. The sun should come out one of these days.

Re: New GAP Custom

I love Branden's work. Very nice looking rifle - congrats

Re: New GAP Custom

Love the colors they used on your stock that is the same pattern I want to do to mine.

How is that DOA shooting bench I was talking to Brent a while back about them they look alright

Re: New GAP Custom

Thanks for the kind words guys.

The DOA bench is fabulous. It's rock solid and puts up/takes down quickly. I have two tops: 30X40 for shorter rifles and 30X45 for my longer/larger guns. I pretty much leave it in the back of my Xterra so I can get out and shoot whenever I get a little time.

My only complaint is with the paint that Brent uses. It just isn't very durable. In our dry climate rust hasn't been a problem but it could be in a more humid environment. I've casually thought about blasting it and repainting with something better but just haven't gotten around to it. By the way Brent is a pleasure to do business with and a good guy to talk with.
