I have that acope in FFP with the mil dot and it has served me very well.

Pros...
Good glass
Reliable
Positive clicks
Accurate adjustments

Cons...
pricey
Basic reticle
Easy to loose count of revolutions
No zero stop
Only 40-50 of usable MOA inside with 20the MOA base.

Mark

MGordon -

Thanx! Seriously good info.

Re: opinions on this Leupold Mark4 6-5-20x50 scope???

I have the same one in FFP/M5/TMR and I will second MGordon's advice. For me it works fine, since the longest range I shoot is 300 yards so it's only 1-1.5 mils (depending if it's .223 or .308). Otherwise, a great, reliable scope.
What is the longest range you plan on shooting?

Re: opinions on this Leupold Mark4 6-5-20x50 scope???

I have one with m5 turrets and TMR reticle. I just can't own a scope where turrets and reticles don't match. I LOVE the TMR reticle - the little open spot in the crosshares is awesome. The glass is crystal, crystal clear around center, but i found i had to refocus slightly to clearly see and measure hits using the .2 mil hash marks at the edge of the reticle.
The only real downside, and this may just be with the ffp model like i have, is that eye relief is pretty critical, and changes quite drastically from 6.5x to 20x, like so bad that when i set the scope up i did so at 6.5x. When i went to the range and set it to 20 i couldn't even see through the scope. I had to scoot so far forward that it felt awkward.
Like i said, this could only be a ffp thing. But the down side to the Leupold is the only way to get the m5(the only turrets that match the reticle) turrets is to move up to the ffp model. I just can't bring myself to ever own a mil-based reticle with MOA turrets...
Many will say the loopys are pricey for what you get. I'm not so sure. I paid like $1600 for mine and i believe i paid $1700 for my nightforce and it wasn't ffp, and the loopy has better glass - at least mine does.
Not sure why the amount of internal travel is a problem for some. That's what canted scope bases are for...
And turrets can easily be marked to keep count and shims can easily be added under the turret for zero stop.

Any input appreciated. </div></div>
Problem with that one is its a mil reticle with MOA turrets. Take a look at their TMR reticle. Mil based, way cleaner, and more variable subtensions. Still, only way to also get mil turrets is the m5 models, and this is the cheapest in that magnification range:

Re: opinions on this Leupold Mark4 6.5-20x50 scope???

I've been using this scope for the last three years. Good scope. The prior posts are spot on. The fov is very limited at close range. If you intend on using it for observation work inside 200 I prefer my 3.5-10.

Well, with y'alls help, I've decided on the Mk4 ER/T.

Thanx!

Excellent choice.

I have 3, a 6.5-20, 8.5-25 and a 3.5-10 ~ Really depends on what range you want to shoot but, the 6.5-20 really suites the vast majority of my uses.

Good luck w/the ER/T!

I got the 6.5-20, as this will be a 2-600 yard gun primarily (limited by nearby ranges) but I want to be able to reach to a K.

Re: opinions on this Leupold Mark4 6.5-20x50 scope???

I have the LR/T version of the 6.5-20. Got it for a song and a dance so price was a non-issue. For me, the TMR reticle is perfect with the open center. Good for precision work where you don't have to dial or range, i.e sandbag shooting in an open field at known distances. I am planning to get the newest version of the 6.5-20 with the 34mm tube and zerostop turrets eventually.
