Perhaps someone has already posted this, in that case my apologies in advance...

I don't even know where to begin with this...

I am sure folks here will have some good info/responses. Because this is just eerie. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist/black helicopters/tinfoil hat person. But... really?

Miami Herald story:

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

It's been doctrine to train for any 'real' scenario forever now.

Doubt this has anything to do with anything; I'd be more worried if I stumbled into huge unmarked training camps in the middle of nowhere than in a large US city.

And to put all the tinfoilers to rest; if it came to the point of them needing to 'use' this training, they have much bigger problems on their hands.

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

Helicopters are better then B1 bombers, I get them flying over all the time. But they been doing it since I moved here 19 years ago.

Ha! We get A/C 130s, F15s, F16s, A10s, CV22s, occasional F14s and F18s, heavy haulers from time to time in addition to salad shooters. And now we have F35s.

"Negative, Ghostrider. The pattern is full."

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

I like the part about training for overseas deployment. Because we deploy to cities like Miami all the time.lol. You know, swamps to the west and white sandy beaches all around.

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

Sounds like a TRUEX. I did one in Jacksonville, FL before and we were landing CH-53s in the middle of neighborhoods at 0200. Suck it up, Buttercups, it's the sound of freedom!

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

There are youtube vids of Loaches and Blackhawks doing some close maneuvering through the financial district of Boston at 0 dark 30.

Seemed to go totally against the risk averse training I remember in the mil as well as the mindset of the local politicians. Also unlike other excercises there was no media announcement of this.

I will admit it looks like the guys doing the training were good.

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

What ya really need to worry about is a good ole UH-1H Huey wop-wopping into your AO with an old fart Viet Nam pilot like me flying it with a bunch of young SF/Rangers lead by an old crusty LRRP . . . then you got a problem.

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

As I said... not part of the tinfoil hat set. And when I lived up near Ft. Meade in Md. there were exercises all the time in the area. So often as to be something you just ignored.

But under the current climate and with all the current theories/hysteria running rampant about the administration... it seems like a very ill-conceived idea to run these kinds of exercises in downtown Miami. And make a big media deal out of it.

Seems like red meat for the tinfoil-hat set.

Killer Spade... not only are you welcome to land on my farm with a gunship... I'll throw you and your team a BBQ. If I can shoot the '60s.

BTW, if he ever posts anything, my better half's cousin just got into LR shooting and is lurking around here somewhere under the handle GetontheChoppa. (or something like that.) He'es Navy Seahawk right-seater out of SanDiego... great guy. Be nice to him. Unless he posts something stupid. Then, game on.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

If it's what I think it is, and it sounds like it is, it's a TRUEX (Training in Urban Environment EXercise) that is part of the USMC MEU (SOC) workups for the MSPF. I did mine in '95, and they're far from new or out of the ordinary. They rotate cities that they're run in and other popular venues on the east coast are Jacksonville, Richmond, New Orleans, Key West, and a few others. Yes, it would be better to train in an actual foreign setting, but hey, have you been to Miami lately? It is a foreign city!

The timing? I think people were a lot more worried about black helicopters in '95 than now. It's far from a "black op" too, as the MEU PAO always publishes articles on it every time.

Re: Military helicopters Training over Miami???

It happened in Portland awhile back too.

It's just our guys training.
