I was at my local gun shop the other day, hanging out and talking about this and that. A man walks in and asks if there are any AR-15's available. My buddy says "Yeah, we have a couple." The man says "Ya know they are going to ban the assault weapons so i figured i had better get one before."
My buddy (gun shop owner) says" Well, technically, thats not an assault rifle, its semi auto." The guy says "No, it even says it in the title, AR, and that stands for Assault rifle."
We laugh for a couple seconds while the man looks puzzled as my buddy brings up the internet. to this exact site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15
"Its named after ArmaLite, not assault rifle, thats a media term" says my buddy. The look on this mans face was priceless.
Moral of the story is the media isn't the best source of knowledge.
Late on he showed me a image of an AR-15 from a news clip. It showed the front sling swivel on an ar and where they said that is where you mount the grenade launcher or bayonet. love me some misguided journalists...
