Well I finally did it. I was getting my department barrels cut and timed for Surefire brake for our suppressors. Aaron was recommended by how quick his turnaround was and his quality of work. I had three rifles done and made 4 trips to his shop. Each time I lusted over the custom built guns in his shop. On one of my trips I got a wild hair and set down and we discussed what I wanted with his input, and a new custom stick was to be born. Aaron started the build with a Stiller action designed for Roberts Precision with a RPR lug. Next we went with a Jewell trigger. Add on a Bartlien 5r barrel sendero contour chopped to 20" and a Surefire brake for a 762K can. Next I decided on the Manners T5A in GAP camo, with the metal of the action and barrel to be painted OD green. I opted for the flush cups and studs on the stock.

I talked to Aaron several times over the next couple of months as pieces of my rifle arrived and finally afterabout 4 months I got the call from Aaron that my rifle was built and would be test fired in the next couple of days. That was on a Monday, Wednesday morning I got a call saying come pick it up.

When I arrived I saw it craddled on his bench and was floored. It was one of the most beautiful things besides my kids that I had layed my eyes on.

The GAP camoed stock wasnt what I expected, it was more a flat dark earth with tan and black spounge smears. The action and barrel was more of a dark flat dark earth. I was kind of glad when I saw the coloring, I was regretting going with the greener colors as they really arent the best for my AO. I started talking with Aaron and he said that when he looked at the stock he knew I wouldnt be happy with the barrel and action if his painter did the OD. He continued to tell me that his guy mixed some FDE with green and black to make the color.

We threw it on the scale and it weighed in at just under 10 pounds unloaded with no glass. After all the awwing over it, Aaron produced a group he shot. He told me that it shot just under .5 minute with FGGM 168, but then showed me a .346 5 round group with Hornady 168 amax tap. WHOOOOAAA what a shooter.

I havent had a chance to shoot it yet, waiting on rings and glass.

JPIPES, do you recognize the stock in the background?

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

I saw that rifle in the RP Rifles shop, and it looks even better in person. It also shoots lights out, though I wouldn't expect anything else. Aaron builds a lot of great rifles, and everyone that I have from him is an absolute hammer. I like that he proofs each rifle before handing it over.

The deal with Aaron Roberts is this, he is a great guy, runs a very good shop, with excellent communication and realistic turnarounds. The byproduct is that his rifles shoot very well and we are lucky to have a shop like his so close to us...and I think the secret is starting to get out.

That rifle in the background is going to be my 6x45, whenever the reamer decides to show up...and I'm gong to be running it in for PRS matches for the foreseeable future. Where do you shoot? Let's get together and bang some steel?

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Good stuff. I actually went to Aaron's shop in January to discuss a build but I never got the change to drop it off to him because of time and finances that mysteriously popped up.
He's a good guy and his builds were nice. Yeah, crazy fast turnaround. I think at the time he quoted me less than a month if I had all the parts in hand. Actually it was more like 2-3 weeks for a one man show.
I also forgot he was a TV show host for a bit.. Tactical Impact with Larry Vickers. Anyone remember that?

JB, any more pics of the rifle?

Here is how the .223 that he built for me, on a Brux barrel and Stiller action, shoots with 82 Bergers at 2900. That's three shots...I have no pictures of the 5 shot groups.

Here is how the .260 that Aaron built shoots with 140 amaxes on a Rock Barrel and a Surgeon 591.

I usually shoot at my S.O., or Greenwood gun club in Brazoria, whcih goes out to 600. We are in the process of building a 600 yrd range at our tactical officers complex outside Jones Creek, down in Brazoria County. I dont have the rifle here at the house to take any other photos of it, wife doesnt know I have it yet....lol. I will get some this week and post em up asap.

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Couldnt resist, after my partner was sending them down range I had to get in the drivers seat and stack some on top of each other. Impressive to say the least. Set a Nightforce 5.5x22x56 with the Moar reticle on it and very happy. Will post some group pics after the next trip.

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Like the colors, parts are top notch as well. Congrats

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Just curious why you are letting someone else sight in and shoot your new rifle? Why were you not shooting it??

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Beautiful rifle. Aaron is a great guy to do to business with. Glad to see his work getting around.

Re: Roberts Precision Rifle Custom Gun

Trevor, had a wreck on duty a couple weeks ago and sustained a grade 3 concussion. Doc put me on light duty and told me not to shoot until I was able to pass a physical the upcoming week. As a precaution no shooting, they afraid the percussion could aggravate the brain injury.

That's a pretty good reason not to be shooting then.

Hope you have a full recovery.
