Re: Criminal mistakenly released from Chicago court !!
I'm not going to name the agency, but I was recently involved in the rearrest of a guy who was accidentally let out of the can a year before his two-year sentence was to have ended.
We received a rather vague dispatched call for assisting another agency, and my dispatcher said that the detective from the other agency had just requested that I call him for details. Basically, some clerical error in an administrative office had confused whether this guy's sentences were supposed to run concurrently or consecutively, and they accidentally released him a year early.
We were given some ideas of where he might be, and quietly assisted in looking for this guy in our jurisdiction. We finally found him with booze, a burger, and a hooker. He said he figured he'd be caught, but he was going to get the things he'd been missing before he was. When I asked him how he managed to be released he just said "I have no idea, they told me to go, and I wasn't going to argue with them even if I knew it was wrong". Can't say as I blame him. At least he wasn't a murderer.
