I would like to see a ELR .50 Cal shootout. The rifles would be production rifles shooting Match ammo, or your best reloads. Shooting from a bench or prone with bipod and rear bag or monopod. No rifle rests. Say 5-5 rounds groups. Lets see who has the most accurate .50 cal production rifle on the market.

Range 1760 yards

Please list rifle, load, environmental conditions and any other infomation that would be deemed pertinent to determining what the big .50 can do at ELR ranges. Show your measured groups. Videos would be great.

This is purely for fun and to learn what these different manufactures rifles can do at ELR.

I would go first if I had one. A .50 is gonna be my next big purchase. Sometime this summer I hope.

If this has been done before point me in the right direction please. I think alot of new .50's have hit the market lately and it would be nice to see how they all stack up.

Re: ELR .50 Caliber shootout.

Very little, if anything, will be learned about the rifles not having them all shot in the same test conditions.

Re: ELR .50 Caliber shootout.

Go to an FCSA match in your area.Hunter class is shot off the ground with a bipod.1,000 yds only. The Mac Tac50 + variants,EDM and AR50 have performed real well. Most custom 50cal rifles are shot off the bench. Most shooters don't like to lay their $10,000+ rigs on the ground.

Re: ELR .50 Caliber shootout.

Yup, a stock Armalite AR-50 on a diet of hornady 750gr match has stood up to more than one bout of competition with others in a $6-$7k price range.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Support the sport.
I will put my EDM Windrunner on the ground.

My DTA HTI ain't afraid of the dirt, snow or mud.....no matter what caliber I'm shooting out of it.

I've never seen a 50cal DTA at a match,so I can't report on it.I've shot one in 338lap and it shot real well.I like the design and if they made a left hand model,I'd have one.

Re: ELR .50 Caliber shootout.

Russ I'd like to see the HTI .50 put through it's paces at ELR distances like ya did with the .375 cheytac???

Let it warm up a little bit. I'm tired of being cold. Then I will get on that one.

It's one thing to be frozen and take the recoil of the .375 which is very minimal....it's another to take the hammering of the .50 BMG and be cold at the same time.

Re: ELR .50 Caliber shootout.

There was a bit of interest in having a ELR shoot in Las Vegas last year. I think if someone were to host a mid winter ELR from 1k to 3k it would be a hoot.

Let me guess, the OP wants everyone to test their rifles and whichever one has the best group, that's the one he is going to buy. As every rifle is different and every condition will be different and every shooter is different the comparison cannot be made under these conditions. These tests have been done by a number of rifle mags over the years. I am sure you can find some sort of comparative test on the Internet someplace.

I would give this a shot with my Barrett, but lets be honest... I wouldn't be getting a measurable groups at a mile.
Need a little more trigger time...

If you quit licking your cats ass you wouldn't have that hairball problem. I guess your new here and don't remember some of the other shootout threads that were on here. They were some of the best and most educational ever. I understand that your dumb and from California so you don't understand that I post on here for the good of the forum community and not my own special interests. Thanks for the intelligent reply to my thread that added nothing. Please stay out of my threads from now on.

And the voice of immaturity speaks. Even though you are in your 40’s you respond like a teenager. True, I decided to join this forum after many years of debate from running into individuals such as you that hide behind their keyboard and challenge individuals that they know nothing about. It’s obvious by the post that the comparison would hold no merit and by the number of replies to the absurdity of the request, that alone should make you refrain from further discussion but I will entertain you. I especially like this response “I understand that your dumb and from California”. That should read “you’re” and not “your” and you say I am the dumb one. I am not from California, I just currently happen to live here and while I may not be as intellectually inclined as some, I am working on my doctoral dissertation while you are most likely working on PlayStation or Xbox. I gave the post the recognition it deserved. Now get back to saving your lunch money because accuracy at ELR in a 50 does not come cheap.

It would be a great time if this gets off the ground, and allows all calibers to shoot, no divisions, just run what you have, $100.00 to enter, 20mm to 22 rimfire. Best combined score ; 5 @ 1000, 5 a@ 2000, and 5 @ 3000 meters. Over 3 day weekend, plenty of time to prep and tweak on the first 2 days, (no ifs, shoulds, coulds, or had a bad day, if you lay down to shoot, you're ready!) third day is the shoot off. Winner takes the pot and the Tshirt. If any one hosts, I would be willing to come and help, support, and shoot. There would be a lot of interesting calibers and builds, would be a lot of fun!

I just got some Ivey 150 MOA adjustable rings put on my Model 99 Barrett and am looking to do some more long range stuff and put those things through its paces.

We have toyed with the mile and beyond with the Barretts, 338's, and lately one of my shooting partners has been running the 7 SAUM. I am looking forward to be able to head out to our 2100 yard spot and be able to see the target in my sight picture instead of having to hold-over a landmark somewhere above the target to get enough elevation!
