I'm just about done building my 308 and I like it but I really like the 338 lapua. Don't know why I just do.
I've done a little bit of research but not much just seeing what others have done, bought, liked, disliked.
As far as the purpose for this gun just gunna use it for target, might try competition. Really just want a nice 338

As far as actions I am looking at
Stiller
Surgeon
Borden

Any help would be great

Have a Stiller TAC338 on my 338LM and love it. Has been bullet proof. It was my first Stiller action and it has performed so well that I ended up getting two more Stiller actions, TAC 30 AW actions, that ended up in other builds.

Can't speak to the others from personal experience.

And thats just what I'm trying to get is personal usage. So +1 for stiller

Im currently running a Stiller TAC338 as well for my 338LM and it has been rock solid, very smooth. Have it dropped in a McRee stock, which I love, but some people don't like the look of them.

Don't forget the Badger M2013...same thing as the M2008 with some lightening cuts and a couple other mods (bolt lift and safety cut I believe). If they do the same thing as the M2008, magnum action will be available...

no word on when they will receivce the stock from mcmillan (longest lead item)

Had my TAC338 in a McRee chassis to start and found despite a lot of time and effort the ergos just never quite felt right. Moved it over to an AICS 2.0 and the ergos suit me much better. I would really suggest that you do all you can to get behind the different chassis systems and stocks before finalizing your decision and see what is going to work for you. As I said for me the McRee was a struggle whereas the AICS 2.0 wasn't and so all three of my precision rifles are set up identically - same chassis, same scopes, same LOP etc.

Good advice on figuring out your optics sooner rather than later. Lead times can be out there and the dollars are too. You may get lucky and find exactly what you are looking for on the used market but that is hit or miss and it sucks to be sitting on a nice new build with no scope to go with.

I am also looking to build a .338LM, which of these actions are 700 clones? I would like a stock that is only made for the 700 and clones.

Yea I think I am going with the Aics route with my 338. I just love the feel of it. Waiting to get my Viper skins in so I can put those bad babys on it!

And I kinda have a idea but we will see gunna be a couple paychecks but I think Us Optics is where I will go

Just built my "dream" scope on USO... The SN-3 5-25x T-pal 3400.00 It's gunna look so good tho!

I had my 338 built by GAP using a Defiance action. I debated between it and the Surgeon but just liked the feel of the Defiance better when I got to play with both. Can't really go wrong with any of the actions mentioned so far.

There is nowhere or no one around me that has custom built rifle so its hard for me

I have mine built off a Defiance in a AICS Chassis (built by Mike at Black-Ops Precision) with Viper Skins.

If you go with a Defiance long action with a standard tenon length, you'll get a standard Rem700 footprint that will drop into standard stocks or chassis.
