First, hello all. I am obviously one of the new guys. Anyhow, I recently purchased a Remington 700 PSS in .308 Win.. I bought the rifle with a tactical grey Cerakote with 6/4 Seekins Precision rings with a matching Cerakote. The bolt and the knob are the only remaining black surfaces on the gun. The gun had some other "custom" work. From the outside looking in, I would say that the action has been trued. The stock is the factory H-S Precision stock. So, I topped the rifle off with an IOR 4-16x50 scope and picked up a couple of boxes of cheap IMI ammo tipped with Federal Match bullets. Anyhow, I took the rifle out and sighted it in at 100 yards. A fairly easy task considering the rifle had not been bore sighted. After I picked up a "zero", I fired one round and hit approx. 1.1 inches above my target dot (roughly the size of a dime, possibly a bit smaller). I then proceeded to adjust the scope down four clicks and left four clicks. Fired another shot. About 1 inch down and one inch to the left. I returned the scope to zero and fired another shot. Nothing, no noticeable hole with the scope set on 10x. So, I fired again, in a rush due to dwindling daylight. I adjusted the power up to 16x and I noticed a slightly larger hole. Satisfied that I had put all three shots in one hole, I packed up and came home to clean up the rifle and store her in the safe.
So, with that said, I am wondering exactly what "may" have been done. I had the group measured (.1656 ) and as soon as I figure out how to post a pic, I will. I am just not certain that a "bone stock" Remington 700 PSS will attain this type of accuracy. Any thoughts?

Next, I recently ordered a Versa Pod 50 Series Model 72 bipod, all steel construction. My question is, what adapter will I need? The standard? I have searched for about 4 days trying to determine the correct adapter with no luck. If I had found the answer, I would not ask the question, so all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and I have a lot to learn about tactical style shooting. Btw, I am a lifelong hunter, bowhunter primarily and I enjoy the long shots on coyotes, etc;, but I have never been into the tactical game. I will use this rifle for hunting deer and coyotes, but coyotes and long-range shooting primarily. So, I am very green to the sport of long-range and tactical style shooting.
Again, thanks for the input.

Re: Newb question

It will be hard to tell if you did in fact put 3 shots through the same hole although a picture might help. At this point as for what happened its hard to tell. A single 3 shot group isnt a definitive test of the rifles accuracy. Instead see how its able to shoot on a more regular basis.

Re: Newb question

Thanks for the input. I am not sure that the rifle is a real performer yet so I will have to take it out more and see if it was luck, the rifle, the shooter or any combination. I would hope that repeatability will come into play, but I will not be completely let down if not. There is a lot I could do with the rifle to get the performance I desire. Maybe even have a rifle that can simply outshoot me, and some days that's easy to do, but I am practicing.

I will try and get that pic up later to have it reviewed, criticized, whatever. Until then, feel free to criticize my lack of snipers hide navigation ability.

Re: Newb question

Thanks for the responses guys. They are appreciated. I was planning to post a pic tonight but I have had two hold ups-the first being a newborn in the house, and second, for whatever reason or another, photobucket is not working. At least not the register part. But I will get it done in time.

Anyhow, does anyone know what Versa Pod adapter would be best suited for for my H-S Precision stock on my PSS, the factory stock of course? All help appreciated.

Here is the group...First group, cut short by dwindling daylight and a 9 month pregnant wife at home...

Re: Newb question

Well damn...that went over like a fart in church...I will try again tomorrow. At least you can click on the link to see the first group. I know its a small sample, but it is a sample.

Re: Newb question

I'd be happy as a clam if that was my group! Shoot some steel next time if you're unsure, but it looks like a three shot group from here.

Do it again! Do it again!

Re: Newb question

Thanks guys for the comments and complements. They are very encouraging. I am not certain that myself, or the rifle can do this every time, but I am going to put some rounds through her this weekend. My uncle is in the process of loading up about 300 rounds for me to experiment with. I am really excited about shooting Lapua Scenar's through the rifle as well. I have heard that if your rifle likes them, it likes them and vice-versa.

I have shot many rounds in my life, and I have proven to be a decent shot, but I have never really owned a precision rifle. I have a rifle chambered in .204 Ruger that shoots really well and a Marlin bull barreled rifle chambered in .17 HMR. I have killed many crows with both of these at ranges out to about 500 yards, 316 is my longest with the .17. But that hardly makes me a marksman.

So, with that said, this is my first true "precision" rifle if you will and I would like to learn what I am capable of, what the rifle is capable of and specifically what kind of work has been done to this rifle, because it is still hard for me to believe that this rifle is hardly stock, at least as far as the barrel and action are concerned.
And, after all of the rambling, on an aside, I determined what adapter was needed with the help of a tech at SWFA.

Re: Newb question

I wouldn't screw with it too much if it's shooting like that. Easy to break something that isn't, if you know what I mean.

Re: Newb question

Just a little update... I finally got to go shoot yesterday. I had a little mishap when zeroing the cylinder on the turret so I spent a few minutes getting everything back to "0". Once I was close I was about 1.5 inches high and about an inch to the right. I shot a 5 round group that was around or less than .5 moa. So, with little time to spare, I tested the reliability of the windage adjustments. I moved the scope 1/4 moa left and fired a shot. The right edge of the bullet cut the previous hole through four shots in succession. I was then approximately 1.5 inches high and centered.

Again, this was not a long session, but there were around 20 rounds fired in around 25-30 minutes with only a few patches drawn through the barrel every third shot. I am comfortable in saying that the first 5 rounds during the grouping was well under .5 moa (yes I know that .485 approximately is not much different than .5 , unless you are shooting for precision) and I did not have my micrometer to measure the group. The final four shots were inside of a straight or nearly straight line from right to left spanning a bit more than an inch (measured with a tape). I had no fliers, and as of now, I am more than happy with the performance of this rifle.
