Ran this ammo across the chrono yesterday in the cold to get updated data. So here goes for those that are curious.

This ammo shoots extremely well in the GAP gasser, and now we are trying it in the bolt gun. The frozen finger zero group on the Savage at 100 was very promising. More numbers to follow when we get to stretch it out. Didn't mention early in the post, but this .308 ammo.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

I've been incredibly impressed with the SW ammo's performance in my GAP-10. I haven't chrono'ed it but it has shot fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another big batch from them.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

Just to clarify, it's been out to 750 yards with the GAP gasser. It's the Savage bolt gun that we're trying it in now. It's so good in the GAP10, my reloading bench isn't as busy these days

Anybody else have any input on these SW rounds? I have some and have yet to shoot em. Rifle is a 20" AW

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

Shot some this summer, didn't shoot a lot in the way of groups, but it was consistent and I never felt the ammo was holding me back in any way.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

SW 175smk is all that I use now because they shot so well from my rifles. I'm getting lazy and would rather spend my limited free time shooting rather than reloading.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

We are replacing the Winchester brass line with better brass and with our head stamp on it.

The weight of the brass will be close to the same, it is better than the Winchester. I would not put our name on it if it wasn't at least as good.

This brass cost more than Winchester, so the overall price will be more, but it will secure our brass supply better than buying Winchester from a distributor.

Thanks,

Zach

I am extremely happy with SW 308 ammo in my AE Mk III. Took first place in a LR match last year running their FC/175smk ammo in my AE and I was elated when I won the match using a .308.

like their stuff a lot. good folks to deal with as well. wondering has anyone else chronoed it in a 20" bolt gun? thread starter got 2600 in a 20" GAP. mine is a tikka t3. just wondering.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

Being new to precision rifle shooting I went with some of what the veterans were telling me was good ammo. I started with the Southwests 168SMK, but seasoned shooters told me that I should use the 175 past 600 yds. So I started with Southwest and have been very happy with the results.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

I got in on he first 308 group buy for the 175s and it is great. I have only shot out to a little more than 600 yards but have had great results

The ammo I got (first group buy) might not be identical but for what I have Zach helped me get very close for MV. I have an 18" barrel and he said Mike has a 19" that was shooting my same ammo at 2525 Fps so we took off 20 Fps and that put me dead on out to 610 yards. Since you have a 20" barrel try adding 20 Fps which should put you right at 2545. That should have you close unless the ammo/powder has changed from the group buy I was in.

Nice results. SWA makes some great ammo.

Re: Southwest Ammo 175 SMK Win Brass - Range Report

Well my son shot his 1st F/TR class yesterday at 1,000 and we used SWA Ammo reloads. Never having done this before, we started off to a rough start getting on target. However, once we did, he did a great job considering it was his 1st time and he's 14.

On the 2nd relay he had (3) 9's in a row and a X and scored a 162. Furthest he ever shot prior was 400 yards.

I thought the SWA Ammo was pretty consistent. Guy we were shooting with thought they were as accurate as his handloads.
