My lwrc M6A2 16" 5.56 started to FTF a lot today. Every 2nd or 3rd shot would FTF. I was using American Eagle xm855 green tip, 62gr rmj-bt ball ammo with 2 separate Pmags as well as the stock magazine.
This is only the second range session. The first range session I went through 200 rounds of the same american eagle ammo with the same mags and not a single issue.
I first thought I wasn't driving the rifle hard enough but that wasn't the issue. I then pulled the bolt and it as a bit sticky and dry so I lubed it with s2000. After the lube the FTF occurred @ every 15-20 rounds.
This might sound weird but the FTF appeared to mostly occur when I had the rifle resting on the sand bags in the middle of the rail. ( just a coincedence?).
At the end of the day the last magazine was loaded with Hornandy 223 high quality ammo and I put an American Eagle as the Fifth round and lord and behold I had a FTF on the American eagle.
The only thing that was different from the second and first range session was that I had cleaned the rifle after the first.
At the range todaybI checked the piston, cup, rod and nothing was visibly wrong?
While manipulating the bolt face with my hand I don't remember the rings "scraping" the sides of the bolt as hard as it is doing today.
Am I completely over thinking this, and It is probably just weak loaded ammo?

I was printing 1.5" at 100yds with BUIS and H1 and a bit better with a 6x power. (Not bad)

Question:
should I run the bolt dripping wet?
Is it probably the cheap ammo?
Should I just dump the rifle for 1k because it doesn't work?

Thanks for the help.

Have you called LWRC yet? They have good CS. That should be your first order of business tomorrow.

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

They typically don't need to be run wet at all. Mine barely needs lube and eats everything it's fed. I would give it a more thorough cleaning (everything) and try switching to another brand of ammo. See if the problem persists before trying to send it back to LWRC. And by any chance you dump it for 1K (please don't), I'll take it:)

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

It's junk and you should scrap it. Since I am the kinda guy I am, I'll send you my FFLs address and you can ship it to him and I'll take it off your hands. I'll throw another $500 on the $1000 for your trouble.

On another note, I don't have a ton of experience with a piston driven AR, but I grease (not oil) my semi auto rifles. I never have any trouble. Specifically, the bolt carrier--but I always thought that a piston rifle would run virtually dry.

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

It must be defective. Name your price and I'll ensure it lives out its days well cared for, in a nice rest home.

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

Clean it in depth, reassemble and don't forget to function check it. Try different ammo, if it doesn't like it call LWRC. If there are no further issues, then it's just the ammo and you know what not to use. Also try running the heavier bullets, could just be the that 62g and lighter don't run well with yours.

sounds legit

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

Thanks skketter, I will let you know before I launch it off a cliff.
I am attending the costa ludus event in October and they suggest bringing 1800 rounds. Would it be ok to run a softer buffer spring of r the cheaper bulk ammo? Would it be to risky with damage to the receiver?
I would hate to buy 1800 quality rounds at today's prices - even if I can find 1800 rounds!

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

Even though LWRC's are a piston gun and have great coatings they still need to be lubed. Just remember that they will always run wet. Wetter the better. Did the FTF only happen with a certain mag?? I own two LWRC's and the only time I've had a FTF was when it was around 14 degrees outside and the rifle was not lubed enough.

Re: FTF with an LWRC M6A2

Same thing happened to my friend. He sent it back, and they replaced the bolt. They said they had a bad batch of bolts go out. This was about a year ago. My buddy says the gun has been good to go so far. Call LWRC.

I removed the BAD and the rifle cycled perfectly again. The Magpul BAD was ever so slightly activating the Bolt release. Instead of grinding down the backside of the BAD and reinstalling it, I just removed it altogether.

Thanks for the update. Not the first time I've heard of a BAD causing problems with ARs.
