Resonable weight hunting/target build

I decided I would like a nice hunting/target rig that would be easier to carry around the field than my heavy comp setup and not break the bank so I started gathering a few parts. Everything is on order and a few parts are already here and I am kinda excited about this first rifle "build". Here is how its looking so far...

The base rifle is a Remington 700 .308 AAC-SD 20" 1:10 I picked up used with about 200 rounds on it.

B&C M40 stock is on order
Timney trigger
JP muzzle brake (I know, I know, my comp rifle spoiled me)
BDL bottom metal with internal mag extension
EGW 20MOA base (came on the rifle, might upgrade, might not)
Vortex Viper PST 6-24 FFP mrad
Harris 6-9 clone
Triad Stock Pack (still need to order)

I know this wont be the most accurate out there but I am hoping for a 3/4ish MOA rifle for targets out to 850 yards and predator hunting out to maybe 500.

Any suggestions on anything to improve on besides the usual like DBM and better glass, stock that I am missing?

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

Maybe just eat the cost of a real harris instead of the knock off. You won't regret it if you do. But what are you asking? What your missing or how you could save weight?

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

I would spend the additional money and get a real Harris in 6-9" with the notched legs. Much better than the clone. IMHO.

Regards,
Paul

Here's what I just got through putting together for the same purpose, 75% hunting - 25% target.

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

That's a nice stick pyplynr. What's the info on the pre-fit barrel, just screw on and go?

As for the knock off Harris, it's just one I had laying around and the rifle will probably get a bottom rail so I can use my Atlas.

I haven't really messed with researching scope bases too much but would it be worth upgrading the EGW or just bed it and go with it?

Pretty much. Screw it in and headspace it. It uses a barrel nut like a Savage.

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

OP, your list pretty much described my hunter/shooter. Not fancy at all, but 9.5 lbs.

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

Got the stock and Timney installed, took about 10 whole minutes, and when to the range to get a bse line before I started bedding the base and skim bedding the action. I am more than please with how it did, the trigger is still a little heavy for my tastes but this gun has a lot of promise.

Just a 5 shot at 100 but its a start... Might be hard to read but it says .494", .471 MOA

I will post a few pics of the rifle in a bit.

Re: Resonable weight hunting/target build

I take my M24 SWS to my hike time, like 8 miles on foot to the make shift shooting range and Im fine.

I think Im going to take it to hunt sometimes. Im a strong guy, so carrying my 16 lbs rifle and supplies aint a problem for me.
