I am getting a new .40 and am trying to decide between the sig or HK. Both feel great in my hands. Anyone own both? Which would you keep if you had to sell one? Thanks

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

Try the HK .40 not the USP model . those grips feel really really better to me then the block USP style

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

If you're going up to those price ranges, I say HK. I have a USP45c and it is by far my favorite handgun. The ergonomics and quality are just outstanding. I used to carry it everyday, but I've since made it a safe queen and carry a Glock 23 to beat up.

Sig's are no doubt excellent guns, but I just don't like the feel of them. They don't feel right in the hand, and I've got big hands. There's just something about HK's that I can't get enough of. Except the price. I can get enough of that.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

The HK Will save me 400-500 compared to the sig tacops so it is much cheaper but I do like the feel of the sig more, maybe its the bigger beaver tail.

Wow. Y'all can keep the HKs. $1000+ for a plastic gun?

Between a Sig and HK, I'll take the Sig every time.

Given any choice though, I'll take something blocky from Austria.

I just don't like the way those blocks from Austria feel. With that said I can get a G35 for $425 right now, so that was also on the back burner.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

If glocks aren't your bag, that's fine, but when deciding between an HK and Sig, its a no brainer for Sig, at least to me.

I've yet to feel an HK trigger that impressed me, and I've handled several examples of most of the variants. While Sigs SA/DA, DAO and DAK aren't my fancy either, I find them much less objectionable than HKs DA/SA, DAO or LEM.

Sigs are sweet little pieces of gun craft.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

Drink the HK Kool-aide and you'll never drink anything else.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

HK USP's are the only un-1911 big bore semi-autos that I own. They are excellent, durable and accurate pistols. My two are utterly reliable with whatever they are fed. My oldest is a USPc that I bought new about '96 and it never fails to earn its' spot in my favorites.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

If you are getting something in .40 S&W, I would seriously look at the HK P30 and HK P30L
While the HK USP line is very nice, the new P30 line is well worth a look, a lot depends on your hand size.

There are also lots of different options as far as safety / no safety, SA/DA, Heavy DA only, Light DA only etc, to fit all kinds of preferences.

The biggest plus to the old USP line is that for the .40 full size (as well as tactical) you can get 16 round mags. The new P30 line it's 13 round mags max.

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

I have an HK45c with the LEM trigger. While I don't like the feel of plastic guns, I will say that it tracks extremely well. When I shoot in the Iso position, the sights are back on target a lot faster than my 1911. I don't have any experience with the USP or the Sig.

    Not true,
I also drink FNP45 Tactical & Glock as well.

I have two custom 1911's and they are excellent guns, I do not think they can match the abuse the more modern design handguns can take. That is why I own more than one and between the Sig & HK I feel the HK is the more durable.

No cool aid but it means nothing if you can not shoot it or fits your hand like the wrong sized glove. I would suggest a different caliber but that's another cool aid topic....

Re: Trying to decide HK UPS or SIG TACOPS

I'd try the S&W M&P in .40S&W. I think it is the plastic gun to beat. The first time I fired one, I sold all of my Glock's and HK's. I am also a Sig fan, so in the end, get what you shoot best.
If you look at the customer service of the company's, S&W are tops, while HK are the lowest. Sig seens hit and miss, but I would send a Sig to Grey Guns before the factory any day. Just my .02

I personally recommend the H&K. I own three currently, a full size USP .45 and two compacts, 9, and 40 cal. The 45 and the 40 have the LEM trigger installed and I highly recommend that trigger. It is more consistent than the DA/SA system, and you still have double strike capability. In other words, you don't have to decock and have a heavier trigger pull on the first shot. One thing to remember is the primary purpose of the weapon. If you will use for CCW, I would get the USP compact. If for duty, either full size or compact. The full size only holds one more round than the compact, 13+1 and 12+1, respectfully. If you have smaller hands, the compact may be a better fit. It's also up to how well you like the feel. I have felt the newer p30 from hk, but have not shot one, so I cannot vouch on how it handles. I have also carried both on duty and I will trust my life with any of them.
As for Sig, I have handled and shot them, they are just as good as hk, I just don't like the weight of them. They have all metal frames for the most part, although the have some polymer framed models. If I were to buy a sig, I would get a p226 or p229, or the mark 25.

I've had a few Sigs and still own one. Great handguns. Nevertheless, easy call--HK. I wholeheartedly agree with GG above, HK makes hands-down favorite non-1911 auto. I have no idea how many thousands of rounds I have out through my various USP's, simply great guns whether compact or full size, depending on hand size and application.

I am issued an HK as my duty weapon and while it's most definitely not my favorite handgun, it goes bang every time I pull the trigger, the bullets go where I want them to, and it's light enough not to bother me riding on my hip for 8-16 hours a day. That said, I do believe they (actually both HK and Sig) are overpriced compared to other comparable weapons. If I had to choose a mid-to-full size 40 to buy myself right now I think I'd go S&W M&P. But that's just me.

I am a big M&P fan and love the gun but I was looking for something different than what I always shoot. I went with the Sig and plan on getting a HK when I can find one again. They do have some compacts for right around $500 that are police buy backs so I might give that a try also. I must say though I have felt the SIG and HK side to side and the Sig feels better in every way. The grip angle to the sights to the way it shoots. Plus the TACOPS has the short reset and you notice it compared to other sigs right off the bat. I am still going to try and go with both after all the comments. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

What are you guys smoking here? The HK USP isn't all that great. Thought I shot a .40 Tactical which I liked, nearly every othe USP I tried (and the one I owned) were clunky and slow to shoot. Bore axis is too high and the trigger is just too damn long. Also the trigger face is curved way too much and the connecting bar flexes too much. If you want a polymer handgun in 40 get an M&P. If that doesn't do it for you rock the sig. I recently dropped a short reset trigger into my sig p226 and it made it sooooo much better. I was shooting it fast and accurately. Just recently tried their new E2 grip and it allows for a higher grip that feels way more modern and ergonomic.

Because of HK's political stances on civilian gun ownership and some public statements they made in the 90's about HK's being pointed AT Americans instead of BY Americans, I will not own one.

I've shot a lot of the USP and USP Tacticals they're nice pistols. The Sig's are very nice and don't come with the bullshit politics that HK's do. Therefore I own Sigs and I'd buy the Sig TacOps in a heartbeat. I really like the Sigs that they've started putting the Beaver Tail onto. My next pistol is going to be a Sig P229 Dark Elite TB in 9mm or a Sig P229 Scorpion TB in 9mm. I haven't decided which but I'm leaning towards the Dark Elite instead of the Scorpion.

Ive had both, at the end of the day I would go with HK. Never really had a problem with either but for me I just like the USP feel better.

You cant go wrong with either....

GO with the sig they stand behind their product !! and what most won't tell ya about H&K is they suck at customer service !! yes and you will play hell getting parts for the H&K

I carry a Sig M11 A1 for my EDC retirement handgun. Love it as was VERY glad to give up my issued tupperware guns when I retired. Not that there was anything wrong with them, I just prefer metal in my hand. Guess that comesfrom carrying steel and alloy guns for MANY years until forced into plastic.

I also have a Sig 226 Tac Ops that shoots so well. I had carried Sigs in the past and the short reset triggers are so much better than I remembered the older Sigs to be.

Try them all if you can and chose what you like best. It's good to have choices. It's your cash, chose what YOU want and are comfortable with.

I'll also be looking hard at the P227 Carry when they become available. Another caliber option in a similar handgun with the same operating system sounds like a winner to me!

    Good luck.

Dude, the TACOPS is ALL WIN. True glow tritium front, siglite tritium rear, mag funnel grips, 4-20 round mags, a very refined SRT trigger, comfy beavertail for a nice high hand position, forward cocking serrations, a rail that you can use with 100 percent of new tac lights on the market! I've had both, and the Sig is better. I carried a Sig 229 for 6 years as an Air Marshall and a Border Patrol Agent, and it was a wonderful gun that NEVER malfunctioned. Well, two malfunctions, but they were bad rounds that had good solid hits on the primers, but didn't go off. They were accurate as well. I cleaned the FAM and BP quals regularly with my Sig. My use of HKs has been limited to USPSA and IDPA, and concealed carry, but they had trigger issues that I just couldn't get over. No amount of work by Bruce Grey could make them feel right to me. I am telling you, that new SRT trigger is as good as any custom trigger job that I have had from Sig Custom Shop, or Grey Guns. The 226 is a great value, Plus, I have seen Sigarms reps at several big LE shoots and 3 Gun matches, supporting the community. Aint never seen them holier than thow HK MFrs anywhere. Sig has great customer service, and HK is famous for their bad customer service. My buddy who works for a local Texas PD and competes alot with his HK416, just shot out his barrel, and do you think a barrel was to be found?? No. Fuck you individual cop. He had to send it to Marvin Pitts to get rebarreled with another manufacturers barrel. I sold all 4 of my HKs.
