Anyone using a coned bolt on their mag fed Rem700?

I have an Accurate mag and will chamber the rifle in a magnum or ultra mag case and I'm wanting to use a coned bolt if I can find some proof that it will work.

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

most current bolt repeaters don't use a coned bolt. The nose of the bolt has to pick up the top cartridge....with the cone there is less "flat" remaining on the nose and could cause the bolt to ride over the cartridge w/o picking it up. Going to a magnum bolt face may make the area available to catch the cartridge even smaller. I'm not sure if the above is valid for mag fed rifles but it is with std type internal mags

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

There's some coned bolt repeaters out there and working good with the standard bolt face cartridges like the BR, 6x47 etc I'm posting here to find some one that has done it on a magnum.

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

Why? Cone bolts are usually done on single shots. The main reason for a cone bolt is to allow a cone on the back of the barrel this is to aid in the tip of the bullet getting started into the chamber. With a Mag cartridge you shouldn't have much problem getting a bullet started into the chamber unless you are using Wad Cutter bullets. Hmm......... hadn't really thought of using Wad Cutters in a rifle before.

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

I thought about using a coned bolt with the bottom of the bolt face recess milled away so it could act as a controlled feed like a Winchester. I never wanted to spend the money for the experiment so it never got done.
I'm finding some people have done cone bolts on repeaters with good results on some standard chamberings so I'm really just looking for someone that has done it on a magnum or Jeffrey cased rifle.

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

Now you are talking controlled round feed. The ejector protrudes from the bolt face of a Remmy 700 and will not allow the cartridge to slide up the face. You would need to modify it to a mechanical ejector like a Winchester, McMillan, or Dakota Arms. You are talking about some serious work to a Remmy. Why not just buy a Winchester.

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

You ever see Kelblys mechanical ejector?
I didn't say I was still contimplating it, all I was asking is there anyone using a coned bolt?
