I know that the 175smk is considered a jump tolerant bullet, but is there an optimal jump range that the smk prefers to be within?

Start close as you feel comfortable to the lands and make cartridges in descending length from there. Shoot them and see which groups best.

If you go over to 6mmBR.com and read some of their articles where they interview F class type shooters, for some odd reason, more than a few of them came up with .017" off the lands.

Why it's not .015", or .020", I dont' know, but if you're kind of in that range, you should be fine.

Personally, I'd load to mag length and go from there. If you want to load singly, then play with 'just off' the lands and then further away.

If you haven't done it already, I'd suggest doing your ladder test at .010" off the lands, find your node, then play with jump.

We can tell you what "we" think works or what is typical and your gun may hate it. Mine may be .020", yours may like .010" while Chris's gun may like .017" and yet some other gun/load may like .040

If you don't want to mess with a ladder test, you may consider loading .040 off and work your way to .010 in .010 increments...keep an eye on pressure signs.

Re: 175smk seating depth

I'm currently at .01" off the lands and getting .5-.75 MOA. Planning to work up in .003" increments and see if it tightens anything up (kissing the lands will put me right at max mag length). If I don't see any results I'll work down from .01" in .003" increments and report back.

Seating depth Test:

.001
.004
.007
.010
.013
.016
.019

Re: 175smk seating depth

I have a 24" Kreiger on my Surgeon Scalpel and it does not like 175MK's on the lands at all. I am going through this very process as we speak. When I load 168 AMAX's on the lands it is a tack driver, but the 175's (on the lands) in my gun do not work well at all.

I am hoping that I can find the OAL that it likes with the MK's and I am actually going to test out several different lengths this weekend to try and nail it.

I'd be interested in seeing your results post them here when you are done. And complete your profile when you get a chance.
