I'm in the market for a top shelf FFP optic, I'm looking at the new Kahles, S&B, and Premier. I'm overwhelmed with the reticle choices. Just so you know, I'm a MOA guy switching over to MIL. I'm use to my NF scopes with the NP-R1 reticle.

I'm looking to use holds vs dialing all the time like I use to. What are your thoughts on Horus style reticles or the new Mil 6 that Kahles offers. Are these types of reticles to confusing or hard to use on the lower magnifications.

I see a lot of guys use the P4 reticle, I'm not sure if that would be any better than I have.

    Need Help!!!!

    I have an S&B with H2CMR.

What I like about it is that its real easy for me, a newby, to read/understand the reticle and figure corrections.

At this point in the learning curve of my new scope/rifle combo I'm dialing everything. At some point when I know my equipment I will start holding for corrections.

The H2CMR lacks a christmas tree so while elevation changes are easy for me to understand with my equipment holding for wind in the clear glass will not be as easy.

I use my rifle for punching paper trying to hit an X so I will dial wind. Going for torso sized steel I think would give you a little bit more wiggle room to hold for wind with my reticle choice.

The P4 doesn't have half-Mil hash marks before the first Mil, which are the ones you would use a lot if you had them.

    I like the:

    Gen II
    Klein
    MSR

In a NF scope, look at the F1 with MLR2 reticle.

In a premium FFP scope, look at the 5-25 Steiner with MSR.

I have the MSR on a new Schmidt abd Bender 5-25 PMII and really like it. I also think the Gen2 XR is a great reticle and easy to read in a match type setting.

If you are going to shoot in darkness/low light, give some weight to illuminated reticles that actually light up the full reticle.

The P4 Fein only gives you a plus sign in the middle. In the dark this is pert near useless.

I think that reticle is in widespread use only because for a long time there wasn't a better choice available from S&B.

I like the Horus reticles- they are a bit busy for some but Ive adjusted to it and they can be a heck of a lot faster in competition. The H37, H58 and H59 reticles are great....for me.....
I've been on the fence about a new scope with a Horus reticle and was even considering a TrMR reticle as a standby. My choices were between the New Bushnell, the Bushnell HDMR II, the Leupy Mk4, Mk8 or the Vortex Razor HD.
I've settled on the Leupy Mk8. I also wanted an illuminated reticle...that ruled out the Bushnells.
I'll post back once I've received it and had a chance to shake it down.

It is a good training aid for people unfamiliar with using a Mil reticle, which is why so many military guys like it. And it has its advantages if you always miss low-left or low-right and feel a need to know by exactly how much you just missed. I shot one for a year in competition, and I liked it, but for a considerable extra cost it's nither a necessity nor a panacea.

seeing a horus has sold me on the idea. I have a premier 5-25 with the gen 2 xr and it is nice. But I rarely shoot at a know distance and have the most magnification in the group that I shoot with so it is lacking compared to the horus for my use. I am thinking about selling the premier or giving it to my grandfather and buying a new scope with a horus. For my purposes (spotting others and UKD shooting) a horus has my hook line and sinker.
