In Germany gun laws are strict.
every gun gets registered , gun owners need special permits, they are only allowed for hunting and sports.
guns and ammo need to be kept in different safes, self defense with a gun is not an option.the police comes annualy to ones house to check if the guns are still there and stored safely...

recently in some parts of the country where the greend+socialists are in power there is a new law.
gun owners have to pay a fee of 95€ for the police checks
this is basically a backdoor gun tax.

guys i tell you germany is THE example for how the nomenclatura and left media are grabbing for the guns of law abiding people

its the so called salami tactics and it is done over decades.
small infringments step by step.
the more infringments the less people will own guns.
if less gunowners are in the populace then the lobby shrinks and its easier to get about new restrictions and cut more slices off the salami...

1st register
make more and more obstacles for gunownership eg:
make them need psycho tests or qualifications to have a gun
limit the number of guns/person
cooldown phases
classify gun owners (hunter, sport shooter etc) and only allow them certain kind of guns
make them have mandatory gunsafes
make them store guns and ammo seperately
make a limit of rounds / person / time possible to purchase
make the police check on the gunsafes
make them pay for this "service"
finally
bann guns from private ownership wich i expect to happen in geramny in the next 2 decades depeding on "mass shootings"
welcome to USSR

So dear americans do not let the registration thing happen!
it will be the end if you do within 100 years

Re: Germany: gun owners are fucked

Thanks, Cobalt. It seems like Europe is S.O.L. If the majority of people don't know any different, they probably don't really care. That's the trouble with the urban U.S.A. They don't know crap but vote like the folks that do. This feels like a pretty slippery slope.

Re: Germany: gun owners are fucked

We're fucked mostly due to brainwashing (took roots faster than you can say roadrunner) and as cobalt said slowly but surely they've pushed gunownership outside mainstream to be looked at with fear and misunderstanding and always asking "why do you need guns" making general populace weary of "weirdos who need guns" (They completely dismiss the fact that perhaps someone simply likes guns like women like shoes and yuppies their toys).

But just wait a few months/years when optimism in youths and imported peoples peaks we'll have good old medieval party over here. /sarc off

I'm originally from Serbia. They are on the EU bandwagon and implement a lot of policies that just don't make sense. You cannot purchase more than 60 rounds of ammo, you have to pay for a permit for every firearm that you want to purchase, you cannot own "military style" optics (red dots, mil-dot scopes etc...) AND YOU MUST PAY TAXES ON EVERY FIREARM THAT YOU OWN. These type of laws only limit law abiding citizens. My uncle is an avid hunter and is down to one shotgun now since he cannot afford to hunt or shoot anymore. It is ridiculous to think that these laws only limit law abiding citizens in obtaining firearms because in Serbia every career criminal, part time criminal, and soccer huligan (among other lowlifes in the society) have no trouble obtaining either firearms or ammo. The only positive in all this is that none of these exemplary citizens got an idea to use them on schoolchildren (but this is more to the fact that there are not as many crazies in the society, then it is to to the fact that we have "efficient" gun control strategies. YOU DON"T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT UNTIL IT IS TAKEN AWAY. We have certain rights here that are invaluable and we need to protect those rights at all costs. NOT just for our own sake but for the sake of our children and our grandchildren.

I feel bad for Germany. No guns, no fun and working 50 hours a week to support the Greeks and the rest of Europe that doesn't want to work.

I think its some sort of Pan-European plot or conspiracy to keep punishing the Germans for WW ll.

+1. I only hope that this will make the German people realize that enough is enough. They need to start standing up for their rights, and we must ensure that this nonsense does not infringe upon our constitutional right. A right that is inalienable and that "shall not be infringed."

From the Germans that I've spoken with, gun ownership is socially frowned upon by the majority of the populace. You would figure that a group that has been disarmed before by a tyrant would have learned their lesson, but it seems as though they are coming back for a second helping.

Question on self defense in Germany. If someone where being attacked and defended themselves with a firearm, would they be prosecuted? Same situation, but the defended themselves with a knife?

Actually you can defend yourself with a gun or a knive, that's legal. But you have to do it in a proper way, you can't shoot someone, who "only" stole from you, in the back or so. But self defense is not a reason to own a gun...

It's not true, that the police comes annually to ones houses to check the guns. The public office does the job and it depends on where you're living. In some regions they don't have the time, so they won't come to you. Whatever, in my opinion it's a violation of my civil rights. By the way, if the police wants to check the suspect of a crime, they have to get a warrant, so the criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens.

It all started to become nasty with some shooting rampages by kids who stole the guns from their fathers (Winnenden, Erfurt). Then some hypocrits came up and try to save Germany by banning every gun in the country. Every time someone gets shot, they blame it on sport shooters or hunters and their "bad guns". Nobody cares about illegal guns though these cause the real troubles. We really could need a powerful lobby like the NRA but that won' happen, cause gun owners in Germany belong to many different associations. Seen individually they are all weak and on one cares about others.

The strategy of the anti-gun lobby is: First try to ban the guns that are used at least, because only few people will protest. For example, try to ban semi-automatics. The hunters don't use them, so they won't protest. Most sport shooters use bolt action rifles or handguns, so it doesn't affect them and they won't protest. Then try to ban big bore rifles, because .... Ok, I think you got it.

My answer to all this BS is a decent F*ck you.

Take care.

It's not so simple as there are not giving money to Greeks but to their banks who lent money to Greeks to buy German BMWs (in short) which if you take it on global level turns into a circle jerk where you're on both giving and receiving end and the problem is noone really knows the net balance :)...

Also DO NOT forget in ~1939 when things were looking good "all" Germans were nazis and in 45 when things went sour there were no nazis to be found... Its a natural thing not specific to Germany and Germans but still it is what it is.

But fast forward to today and this topic facts are that this EU cancer is definitely something ruling elites in "old" European countries support and feed. Yugoslavia was just one of the first to fall (not that it was much better than these bastards are) and perhaps this is why we from ex socialist countries can feel and see this EU"SSR" and US"SSR" bureaucracy for what it is and find it rather ironic (though one nasty part of me kinda rejoices that you should taste this medicine - but it quickly passes once i think about suffering which is about to befall western peoples) . Old generation cries for old times, we the middle generation see both as the same crap and younger generations are too busy playing with IphoneX to notice that society is turning into shit.
I think its important to share knowledge and feelings about world situation to strengthen our resolve and make sure that people of good faith (whatever continent or country they may inhabit) see that they are not alone in this struggle and that bastards who try to turn our societies into some kind of neofeudal Orwellian society act in unison and if there is no coordinated effort there is definitely sharing and copying of methods of corruption and perversion of governing between global players.

So regardless of history and petty bickering between nations we either stand united against this shit (internet is great tool to get info to identify global/local shit)...

Forgot about the famous selfdefense European style :)...

Basically for your actions to be defined as self defense (or intervention in help of another person) the act must be in balance with applied aggression which in turn means that if someone is attacking your/somebody else and circumstances are such that judges with the help of expert witnesses (usually some kind of police persons or police school teachers etc...) or other witnesses decide you applied proper force you're free if they decide you've reacted disproportionally you'll get sentenced in accordance with your actions. Kinda long but simply you cannot shoot someone who attacked you with a hammer and is half your size or for example shooting someone who had broken into your home and is going through your fridge without him clearly (this means you have some defense marks or bruises and/or him having a gun and clearly shot by you from close range in proper part of body - front only; backside does not count :) ) attacking you...

As to the law its a some kind of EU universal type where you need reason for guns (collecting, sports, hunting, selfdefense(CCW)->is not issued in 99.99% as only those with connections will be able to prove "proper amount of endangerment to warrant a CCW and this category is a relic of old socialistic days where political leaders and those in power had this privilege - funny eh?).

Sports and hunting is mostly logical with mandatory medical exam, training classes (theory and totally useless) and each permit for gun costs money (around 70€ for permit and entry into permit) and is valid for 20 years (then you extend which is usually without a problem). Types of weapons not limited with exception of fully automatic and explosive devices (EU categorization into ABCD classes -> A class is forbidden and consists of automatic weapons, silencers, various sticks, daggers, launchers, handgrenades etc...)

Collecting allows for collection of certain (there is a list of permissible weapons mostly old and not in use in armed forces anymore) automatic weapons only additional requirement is active alarm system (safe storage area with bars on doors and live alarm connection to security agency). For firing those weapons you need a special permit from police (which is always declined :) ).

We here have huge problems with ranges as there are only two ranges with 1km capability and are used by the army which due to economic situation or just plain stupidity forced us firstly to hire security agency for closing the range down (1km range has 12 guards planned so you can imagine the cost of running this range per day) and most lately completed closed off all ranges (even small ones) to civilians (economy tanking and savings - formal reason). So we're forced to shoot on two or three civilian ranges which have max length 300m and some private land which is also problematic due to size of my country (How do we measure car acceleration? From 0 to border...) and getting 1km of not problematic land is a problem :).

Don't be naive enough to believe it's Germany and France solely bailing out Greece. Yes Germany has the most to lose initially, because the German economy is the best off. The entire world is on the hook for Greece and the remaining countries like Spain, Portugal and Italy will fall economically soon thereafter and eventually the U.S....it's all a matter of timing. And the deck will be reshuffled.

You might want to look into the IMF and what % of GDP each country contributes, as well as where most of the U.S's Tarp money ended up. It's just the passing of the fake money around the world economy. It buys us all a bit more time, but the time for financial and other reckoning is not too far away, everyone will be affected, and the pain will be much worse for much longer because of it.

Back to the original topic of gun confiscation etc... It's the same thought process and reason to disarm the populous world wide and always has been. The only difference is that our friends in Europe have had a front row seat a bit longer than what has been knocking on our front door.
