I currently have a Krieger .338 Lapua barrel on order. I am undecided on which direction to take this build. It is between a Manners T4A stock, and a Gary Eliseo tactical repeater chassis. Can anyone give me some pro's or con's? From what I can gather, deviating from the conventional rifle stock such as the Manners and going with the Eliseo tactical chassis would allow for much more rigidity and strength in the rifle where as the action is sleeved, bedded, and bolted into the Eliseo chassis, and if I remember correcting a 360 degree recoil lug... I can see how this could possibly cut down/tighten the internal dynamics of the rifle as well with balance and harmonic vibrations when fired. I am trying to build the most precision rifle I can with this build to eventually extend this rifle out to 1 mile target engagement, and use for long range hunting out to around 1000 yards only. Either way I go this will be a proned out or benched shooting rifle due to the weight.

I've seen the conventional Manners and McMillan 338 lapua rifles with krieger barrel, and surgeon actions shot at a mile with fine precision, I know either way I go is capable of the task. Personally I can just see the tiny enhancements that are obtained by the tube rifle design. I agree with any of you that would say the ballistic difference could be possibly so minute that one could probably only tell in laboratory testing. But, personally I just like to have the reassurance in the back of my head that I built it the most precise way even if my shooting skills will never out perform the rifle itself.

I've contacted all manufacturers mentioned, either way I go, it is possible with the barrel I have coming in and these ways of building them..

Spec's:

Krieger 1:935 twist for 300 grain sierra matchkings or Berger hybrids - 30" Finished length - 1.35 OD at breech tapers to 1 inch at muzzle

Manners T4A stock with Defiance Machine Rebel, -OR- Surgeon Action, Both Repeaters, and 40 MOA rail

Gary Eliseo Tactical Chassis - Defiance Machine Mutant action - Repeater

Jewell trigger

Muzzle Brake - Fat Bastard, or Muscle Brake

Scope - Schmidt and Bender 5-25 PM2

I went with a Mc. A-2or3 ( I forget ) on my 300RUM. I would avoid a pistolgrip of any kind for a while.Make sure you know how long your rounds are going to be for sure before you settel on a repeater. Either of those breaks are fine, just be sure to avoid a radial if you are going to shoot prone. With a 30" stick in that contour you may want to shoot it to see if a break is needed. Think of a sniper fill stock to balance it all out and if going prone don't skimp on the bipod. Accuracy 1st makes a rugged scope level that I am fond of that can be found at LaRue. Have fun with your build and even more when your done. Farrell makes great rings to wrap around that S&B.....ect.ect.ect.......

Concur. If you aren't familiar with a pistol grip you can add pistol shooter errors to your mix.

The Eliseo tube gun has a slightly better potential for accuracy due to being all-machined. The Manners/McMillan traditional/conventional layout may be your most comfortable and adjustable/customizable with after-market. World-class shooters have been using either layout for years.

Of course the recommendation would be for you to shoot both layouts first and determine which you like best before commissioning a full build.

+1 on the ammo used being a deciding factor. I wanted a modified Eliseo chassis for my RPA Quadlite - turned out my ammo´s way too long for their repeater. Unlike with different systems having several mag options (like CIP/nonCIP AI 338), here you´re stuck with their proprietary mags. I also believe they only make 5-rounders at the time.
